YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE.

This Year is drawing to a close and soon we will begin the Year of Mercy. Everyone is called to a particular vocation and it takes time to come to know what that is. It may be vowed religious life, marriage, the single life or priest-

hood. One vocation is the call to consecrated life in the Church. Pope Francis underlined the aims of the Year of Con-secrated Life, namely to look to the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and to embrace the future with hope.

In order to celebrate the YCL at St. Brigid of

Kildare we have offered a presentation each

month. On December 14, 2015, at 7:00 PM

in the Berry Room, Sr. Emma Malisawa, OP from Zam-

bia, Africa and Sr. Ireen Makovere, OP from Zimbabwe,

Africa will speak. The Dominican Sisters came to Zambia,

Africa in 1924. They minister in education, health, pastoral

and social services. Their passion is in praising, blessing and

preaching God’s goodness everywhere. Sister Emma and Sis-

ter Ireen are currently students at ODU working towards their

Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. They will share

with us their ministry as well as the ministries of the Domini-

Our St. Brigid of Kildare Council 10863 was formed in

1992 and now has over 200 members contributing to its

many projects for the parish, the local community, the

Diocese of Columbus, and the universal Catholic

Church.

The Knights council at St. Brigid’s is honored to be providing a gift of Matthew Kelly’s new book Rediscov-er Jesus to the families in our parish. The gifts will be handed out after the five Christmas Masses this year. Additional details can be found elsewhere in the bulle-tin. We would like to thank Monsignor Hendricks, Dea-con Don, and the staff at the school and parish office for helping us make this gift possible.

The Knights assisted with the repair, and installation of the parish Nativity scene again this Advent season. We would like to personally thank Paul Thomas for super-vising the installation of the new roof on the manger this year.

We will also have a spe-cial guest speaker from Syntero who will engage the kids in discussion about self image and healthy friendships. School News

Last week, our students had their Christmas CARE meet-ing. For their first activity, they learned about how Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make a Wish Foundation for every Santa letter written, so each student wrote their own letter to Santa. After that, the students learned about the Knights of Columbus from one of St. Brigid’s Knights. They learned about how the Knights are gifting a book called “Rediscovering Jesus” to each family who attends a Christmas Mass at St. Brigid. To help prepare the gift, the students spent time wrapping the books for the parishion-ers. Students also discussed how they can act as disciples during Advent as we prepare for Christmas, and how they can be kind to others.

The meeting closed with the Legend of the Candy Cane Prayer:

Stripes that are red, like the blood shed for me.

White is for my savior who is sinless and pure.

“J” is for Jesus my Lord, that’s for sure!

A Gift to the Parish from

Your Knights of Columbus Council

Please keep your eyes open after all of the Christmas Masses for members of St. Brigid’s Knights of Columbus who will be handing out copies of Matthew Kelly’s latest book Rediscover Jesus as a gift to our parish.

Rediscover Jesus is an invitation to seek answers to our deeply personal questions. Each chapter includes a short reflection followed by a Point to Ponder, a Verse to Live, a Question to Consider, and a Prayer for additional reflection, and can be digested one chapter at a time in about 10 minutes.

In the spirit of Hospitality, we hope each family attending Mass will take one copy of the book and use it to help devel-op a stronger relationship with our Lord and with our Catho-lic community here at St. Brigid. We hope it inspires every-one who reads it to grow in his or her faith one chapter at a time, individually, as a family, and as a community.

This coming Lent, Dynamic Catholic, Matthew Kelly’s evangelization organization will be featuring two-minute videos that will take people through Rediscover Jesus chap-ter by chapter. ST. BRIGID’S IS MY HOME

… but there are some people missing …

We want to welcome everyone Home for Christmas. COME HOME!

Have you faced hardships, rejections, struggles or doubts about returning to the Church? “Once a

Catholic, always a Catholic.” -or- “I am a Catholic but I don’t practice anymore.” You may have heard these phrases or even said them yourself. Then there have been times when people have experienced

rejection or hurt by the Church or a particular person in the Church. This may have happened to you. The hurt was so pain-ful that you may dropped out of the Church or severed your relationship completely. Then over time you don’t know how to start back again or have doubts about returning. Yet, there is a stirring within you that wants to be connected. I believe that the feeling of unrest, that mysterious pull inside you, driving you to look into your faith once more is from God. God never gives up. God will keep calling us home, over and over and over again. God like the father in the Prodigal Son story goes out every single day, stands on the hill watching for his son to come home. When the father sees him he rushes to greet him and throws his arms around him and tells him he has been waiting for him. I think that is what God does with each of us … always watching for us, always ready for us, always waiting, always running towards us with arms open wide to welcome us home.

Sadly, the Church has hurt many people and needs to ask for their and perhaps your forgiveness, and at the same time al-ways stands ready to also offer forgiveness and mercy. It is always hard when the Church does not seem to reflect the love and mercy of God. However, do not allow the actions of some to cause you to lose faith in the Church as a whole. You may have questions, and may even want to resolve some past hurts before you can feel free to enter into a relationship with Jesus or the Church again.

Pope Francis is the overwhelming reason that many have said that they are beginning to sense for the first time a desire to reconnect to the Church. At the same time they are afraid that Pope Francis’ teaching will not filter down to the individual parish and they will go back to the exact same situation that they left. That could happen but we invite you to come back and see what happens. Can I promise that you will not feel rejected or hurt again by the Church? No, I cannot. Can I prom-ise you that the Church will become more inclusive in all areas of Church life? No, I cannot. I can promise that we want to be forgiven by you and we want to offer forgiveness where it is needed. December Pro-Life Witness and Prayer

On December 18, the Respect Life Group invites all parishioners to join us in praying for life out-side of Founder’s Women’s Health Center at 1243 East Broad St., Columbus, 43205. We will be praying at the clinic from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM. Park-ing is available on street either on Broad Street or Sherman Avenue. BOSCO BASH 2016

Attention all 6th, 7th and 8th graders — planning for the Diocesan youth rally for middle schoolers is well underway. Bosch Bash 2016 is titled “Unbreakable” just as Christ’s love is for us. It will include fun, food, games, music by Station 14, a great speaker and Mass.
