When violent crime impacts a community there is a temptation to respond with anger and vengeance. But the Gospel calls for rehabilitation, reconcilia-tion, and restoration and teaches us to respect the dignity of all human beings, even those guilty of committing horrendous crimes. An example is to offer emo-tional and material support to the family members of prison-ers, especially children, and to pregnant women and new

mothers in prison. USCCB

A Gift to the Parish from

Your Knights of Columbus Council

Please keep your eyes open after all of the Christmas Masses for members of St. Brigid’s Knights of Columbus who will be handing out copies of Matthew Kelly’s latest book Rediscover Jesus as a gift to our parish.

. Each chapter includes a short reflection followed by a Point to Ponder, a Verse to Live, a Question to Consider, and a Prayer for additional reflection, and can be digested one chapter at a time in about 10 minutes.

In the spirit of Hospitality, we hope each family attending Mass will take one copy of the book and use it to help devel-op a stronger relationship with our Lord and with our Catho-lic community here at St. Brigid. We hope it inspires every-one who reads it to grow in his or her faith one chapter at a time, individually, as a family, and as a community.

This coming Lent, Dynamic Catholic, Matthew Kelly’s evangelization organization will be featuring two-minute videos that will take people through Rediscover Jesus chap-ter by chapter. People interested in participating in this Best Lent Ever program can register, and get more information by visiting: http://dynamiccatholic.com/bestlentever/

The Knights would like to thank Monsignor Hendricks, Dea-con Don, the staff at the school and parish office, and the students at St. Brigid School for helping us provide this gift. We appreciate the community involvement that made this program possible.

We look forward to seeing you after Christmas Mass to re-ceive your gift, and may the blessing of Christmas be with you, and your families.

ST. BRIGID’S IS MY HOME

… but there are some people missing …

We want to welcome everyone Home for Christmas. COME HOME!

If I want to come back, how do I do that? The simple answer is just come, we so much want you here. We want you not to increase our numbers, not to add money to the coffers. We want you back because you are gift to us and we hope the Church is gift to you. Just start coming to worship each week. After a

time if you feel that you need something more and you want to talk to someone on the parish staff then just make that known to us and we will be so willing to help you in whatever way we can. It doesn’t matter what you have run into, have run away from or run up against in life– we want to help you sort it out. Just come home.

We need God in our lives. Today our culture would have us believe that we can do it on our own. We cannot. We are not made that way we need self, others and God. We need help from beyond, beyond the human support that we find helpful. We need God’s help and, I believe that we need the help of a faith community. Come home let us lean on each other’s faith.

In this Year of Mercy Pope Francis offers us an invitation to be recipients of God’s tender love and mercy. Let me share two things that Pope Francis said that I have found consoling:

“Jesus' attitude is striking: we do not hear the words of scorn, we do not hear words of condemnation, but only words of love, of mercy, which are an invitation to conversation. ‘Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again.’ Ah! Brothers and Sisters, God's face is the face of a merciful father who is always patient. Have you thought about God's patience, the patience He has with each one of us? That is His mercy. He always has patience, patience with us, He understands us, He waits for us, He does not tire of forgiving us if we are able to return to Him with a contrite heart. ‘Great is God's mercy,’ says the Psalm.” Come home, let us enter into this conversation together.

In the past few days I have been reading a book by a Cardinal ... Cardinal Kasper said that feeling mercy, that this word changes everything. This is the best thing we can feel: it changes the world. A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just. We need to understand properly this mercy of God, this merciful Father who is so patient. ... Let us remember the Prophet Isaiah who says that even if our sins were scarlet, God's love would make them white as snow. This mercy is beauti-ful. Come home let us offer God’s love and mercy to each other. –Teresa Tuite, OP
