New and Returning Staff

We would like to welcome Miss Annabelle Fitzherbert as a new teacher to our school. Miss Fitzherbert worked last term as part of the year 6 team, and this year will be taking one of our year 3 classes. We also welcome back Mrs Inglis and Miss Selwyn who are returning from leave.

Online Enrolment

The Department of Education new Online Enrolment system is now available to use.

The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit anenrolment application online and at the time that best suits you. The application can beaccessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android.

The online application process is currently restricted to

• Within local intake area

• Enrolments into NSW local schools only

• Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents

We encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. The link can be found onour school website under the Enrolment Tab. Then click on Apply For Enrolment Online. However, a paper copy will be available for collection from the office or can be downloadedfrom the Department’s going to a public school site.

Skoolbag

Skoolbag will continue to be used as our communication tool for parents and carers. It now also allows us to send out emails, so please make sure you download the App to your mobile device if you haven’t already done so. Parents will need to subscribe to their new year groups for 2021, to make sure you’re receiving the correct information. Instructions on how to download the app can be found here.

Uniform and School Supplies

I can see from the size and weight of the students’ bags that you have been online to purchase the school stationary packs. The students have come to school well prepared and looking very smart. Please make sure all your children’s belongings are clearly labelled to avoid losses.

Meet the Teacher Information Sessions

Our Meet the Teacher sessions are planned for week 3. This will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. Under current Covid guidelines, parents are required to remain 1.5m apart when inside rooms. This means that we will have to conduct Meet the Teacher sessions at a range of times and in a range of locations across the school which may not coincide with your child/rens classroom. Detailed information regarding these sessions will be sent out later this week via Skoolbag.

Swimming Carnival

Students in years 3 to 6, as well as a small number of year 2 students, will be attending our swimming carnival this Thursday the 4th of February at The Warringah Aquatic Centre. Thank you to Miss Ingram and Mr Ellis for organising this fun event to start our school year. A note went home regarding the swimming carnival on Friday last week. Copies of the note can also be found on our school website.

.

I look forward to meeting more of the Forestville community in the coming weeks.

With RegardsNaomi Ierace (Principal)

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

At Forestville we provide quality learning for life in an inclusive and caring environment. Wevalue respect, responsibility and a positive attitude. Our mission is to encourage students toactively connect to their learning and become confident, motivated, resilient learners.

Commencing 2021 we will be implementing an evidence-based Positive Behaviour forLearning (PBL) approach at Forestville. This approach focuses on explicitly teaching andencouraging positive behaviour for all students. It is a program which supports students’ ownpersonal development as well as helping them to understand what is required of them inorder to contribute to a peaceful, productive and harmonious learning community.

PBL is about promoting positive behaviour across the school to create a safe and supportiveenvironment for your child, because we know that behaviour is learned, we will be explicitlyteaching the students what is expected of them in different settings throughout the school.

Our PBL program is based on a set of expectations which apply across the school in everycircumstance and setting. At Forestville, positive behaviours are linked to the threeexpectations of:

From these expectations, a set of indicators have been developed for each school settinge.g. in the playground, at the canteen, on the oval, at PSSA, in assembly. These indicatorsdefine our expectations for behaviour. Our initial focus will be on expected playgroundbehaviours. We will then move into other settings over the year.

Our students will be rewarded with ‘Forries’(replacing GOTCHAS) and new lookassembly awards for demonstrating thesebehaviours

You may have noticed our new signage and several smaller posters around the schoolgrounds. Each fortnight all students K-6 will be undertaking lessons and discussions tounpack behaviours expected in each school setting.

The FPS swimming carnival is THIS THURSDAY- 4 February.

Swimming Carnival information

The annual FPS swimming carnival will be held on Week 2, Thursday 4 February. All eligible (Years3-6 and strong Year 2 students turning 8 this year) should have received their permission note onFriday. The note is also available on the school website. Please return your permission note to the office by tomorrow – Wednesday 3 February.

Please have your child at the school by 8:15am this Thursday so they are ready to board the bus at8:30am. Students can wear their sports uniform and/or house colours and have been asked to wearswimming costumes underneath their clothing. As many know we will have a 25m freestyle event forYear 3 and 4 students ONLY. These boys and girls events will be held after the 50m freestyle andanyone who has already participated in the 50m is not allowed to take part. There is not a 25m eventat the zone level so successful swimmers in this event will not progress to the zone level in the 25m.Event information, including proper swimming stroke technique and the program of events areposted on the school website. There will be a canteen* available to students, but only at scheduledtimes, so students should pack their morning tea and lunch as usual.

IMPORTANT COVID INFORMATION!!Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, parents are NOT permitted to spectate at the carnival. This will also mean that all students will return to school on the bus after the carnival. A big thankyou to all of the parents who have already volunteered to help on the day.

*The Warringah Aquatic Centre canteen has changed and does not sell nearly as many sugar basedproducts as in the past. Students should not need to bring any money to the carnival as a packedlunch, drink and morning tea should suffice.
