Target Audience

Deciding upon a clear and appropriate target audience for my opening sequence will be rather tricky as it’s a Horror/Thriller, based on many films of those genres, quite often the target audience would be over 18 due to the contents within the film.

Being a small budgeted film, making sure that we target the correct audience is extremely vital. Targeting a niche audience in the range of 15-24yrs old would be more of the audience who would more or less likely to watch our film.

The need to start from 15yrs of age are to encourage young adults whom which would generally find these kinds of genre quite interesting, also stars in the film are at that age as well.

Pyhscographics/Demographics

The demographics for this film are more likely to address Males around the ages 15-24years, currently in education or

university.

Pyhscographics audience for my film would more or less likely to be Strugglers and Explorers. Purely because the it’s a film which is based on that level. It’s a Horror film which is low budgeted so it would be targeting strugglers and aspirers, this group would come under students because it’s this set audience who struggle for money etc. And being a low budgeted film tickets would be low cost.

Comparing My film to Pearl and DeanI predicted that my film would be viewed to the ratio of 65:35 (Male: Female). I visited the Pearl and Dean film planner, Pearl and Dean is a cinema advertising website which reviews all the new coming movies, from the planner I went to the genre which fit best with my and the result were rather similar to my predictions.

I choose to review a Twentieth Century Fox film called The Cabin In The Woods. The pearl and Dean stats showed that only 39% of female would view the film leaving the rest to males. This chart from Pearl and Dean also shows roughly what ages are more or less likely to view the film. (15-14)years old have clearly stood out in being the favourite for viewers. These figures are also similar to the predictions I made early on.
