COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students to fundamental management principles and theories, with emphasis on the major management functions of planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling as they apply to general business processes and activities. A substantial examination of key management topics, including leadership, training, human resource development, motivation, delegation, problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution, from the perspective of hospitality industry is also incorporated into the discussion.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, the students are expected to:

1. Recognize the importance of the manager’s role in organizations as well in nation-building taking into consideration social responsibility, ethics and Filipino values, management styles and practices;

2. Discuss the different management principles, practices and school of thought;

3. Apply the above in short-term and long-term planning and decision making;

4. Summarize the important aspects of managerial functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling;

5. Analyze managerial problems and situations using the case method.
