Consoling the Heart of Jesus

Fall Book Study begins October 5, 2020 – December 7, 2020

A Book Study using Consoling the Heart of Jesus by Michael Gaitley MIC will

begin October 5, 2020. All are welcome to come and join the groups. It is a great

way to dive deeper into our beautiful faith and learn about Jesus’ unending

Mercy. One group will meet Monday mornings at 9:40 am at the Strykersville

school. The other group will meet Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm. at Ed and Ruth’s

house. We can have as many groups as needed. We just need to know where and

when. You can meet in your home with one or more people or you can use the

school area. It does not matter. Michele will make sure you get a book and some

Guidelines to follow at St. John Neumann Parish

Congregants should plan on restricted seating, a change in

the reception of Communion in order to ensure social

distancing, and other appropriate measures upon entering

and exiting churches. The dispensation from the obligation to attend

Sunday Mass remains in place. All who are espe-

cially vulnerable or simply uncomfortable attending

a public Liturgy are encouraged to remain at home

and if possible, view Mass via live streams, which

will continue in local parishes.

If you are SICK, stay home and limit your contact with others.

Please be concerned about others.

*Never Forget Sanitizer and Mask when

you come to Church*

Parishioners should bring and be prepared to wear their own

masks and, a bottle of hand sanitizer for use upon entering,

before receiving Communion, after receiving Communion,

and after exiting the church.

Today’s Readings:

Isaiah 5: 1-7 Philippians 4: 6-9 Matthew 21: 33-43

The selections from both Isaiah and Matthew feature vineyards in poor shape. In Isaiah’s case. The vineyard was prepared diligently, but eds up being overrun by wild grapes. In Matthew, Jesus tells a parable whose vineyard is commandeered by greedy tenants who abuse and kill the

landowner’s representatives. Who then will produce good fruit for the kingdom? Paul encourages the Philippians to do so by continuing to do what they have learned from him. Let us learn from scripture how we

can produce good fruit.

most beautiful day!!!! And the drive thru went great! This

Respect for Life: From Womb to Tomb.

The U.S. Catholic Church’s observance of October as Respect Life Month “is a time to focus on God’s precious gift of human life and our responsibility to care for, protect and defend the lives of our brothers and sisters,” said the chairman of the U.S. bishops’ pro-life committee. (USCCB) “Pope John Paul’s masterfully articulated defense of the right to life for children in their mothers’ wombs, the elderly, persons with disabilities and the marginalized is more relevant today than ever before,” said Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities. As I mentioned in my pastor’s pen (Aug. 22nd-23rd 2020) and last Sunday’s hom-ily that, what we choose determines who we become. Choosing what is good changes the chooser, empowering him or her to proceed along the pathways of virtue and develop the habitus - or habits- which promote Christian character. Yes, our actions speak more than our words. Our actions reflect who we are. You can tell what a tree is by its fruit. Our decisions, the words we use, and our actions tell others who we truly are, what our values are, what our character consists of. Going to Mass/Church on Sundays (and weekdays) and are receiving Holy Communion, these are very good things but Prophet Ezekiel tells us that there is a path of life and a path of death. He tells us that it is the choices we make that determine the road we travel. God designed human government to protect human life from those who would destroy it. That’s why God gives governments the right to protect all. God gave us human governments so they can protect people who cannot otherwise protect themselves. Therefore, any politician who refuses to protect the lives of the weakest mem-bers of our society is not doing his or her job. Any politician who hides behind the label of “pro-choice” to allow the killing of unborn human beings should not be elected to office. (USCCB) We proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others; and that society,

through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at

every stage of its existence. (USCCB)
