Guidelines to follow at

St. John Neumann Parish Congregants should plan on restricted seating, a change in

the reception of Communion in order to ensure social distancing, and other appropriate measures upon entering

and exiting churches. The dispensation from the obligation to attend

Sunday Mass remains in place. All who are espe-cially vulnerable or simply uncomfortable attending a public Liturgy are encouraged to remain at home and if possible, view Mass via live streams, which

will continue in local parishes. If you are SICK, stay home and limit your contact with others.

Please be concerned about others.

*Never Forget Sanitizer and Mask when you come to Church*

Parishioners should bring and be prepared to wear their own masks and, a bottle of hand sanitizer for use upon entering, before receiving Communion, after receiving Communion, and after exiting the church.

Today’s Readings:

Zechariah 9: 9-10 Romans 8: 9, 11-13 Matthew 11: 25-30

The demands of discipleship are great, but with God’s grace they do not become burdensome. After all, our role model, Jesus Christ, is himself

meek and humble of heart. Zechariah prophesies that he will come not on a warhorse with force and weapons, but as a beast of burden,

offering peace and justice. Paul assures us that God’s Spirit dwells in us. Therefore, we can sing the psalm, “I will praise your name for ever.” God

will lighten our burden.

Next week’s readings: Isaiah 55: 10-11 Romans 8: 18-23

Matthew 13: 1-23 or 13: 1-9

Independence Day

We celebrate 244 years of independence from the King of Great Britain. When the 56 men signed the Declaration of Independence, they knew the risks, they knew the situation, but most of all, they needed this new land. Today, those spiritual foundations and moorings have been all but demolished and uprooted by leaders who do not think as deeply, and certainly not as spiritually. We have now become world leaders in all the things like Evil, Violence, Immorality, Gays (LGBT), Abortion, Murder etc. If something doesn’t change, God will either judge the USA or have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah. We are a nation in need. Today we kill the unborn at an alarming rate (in fact, my observation is that animals get more protection from the law and society than an unborn human). Today many want to defund the Police and fund Planned Parenthood. This “Christian” nation will be electing a President from two men whose views of the Bible are questionable, at best. We are a country in need. We need Godly People. We need to become Godly by our attitudes and actions. It is likely that very few young people today know that God is mentioned four times in the Declaration. The Founding Fathers of America believed in a Creator and in a Natural Law. John Adams, our second President and President of the Second Continental Congress once said “You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments: rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the universe.” In the Declaration, first right Thomas Jefferson mentions is the right to life. In a letter to citizens in Washington County, Maryland in 1809, Jefferson wrote “The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legiti-mate object of good government.” Every time Pope John Paul II came to the United States he never neglected to speak up for the rights of the unborn as he did when he visited Washington in 1979 and on his last visit to St. Louis in 1999. Just as Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. did in the 1960s, the pro-life movement calls on America to live up to the noble ideals expressed in our Declaration of Independence and acknowledge and defend the rights of all human beings to their God-given right to life. Today in our nation, the right to life is denied to pre-born children growing and developing in their mothers’ wombs. The Supreme Court declared in Roe v. Wade in 1973 that the word “person” as used in the Fourteenth Amendment does not include the unborn. In his struggle for civil rights, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. chose not to attack America for her failings, but to challenge her. He called on America to live up to the noble ideals expressed in our Declaration of Independence. Each of us has a responsibility, as Christians and citizens, to work for the protection of human rights, especially the most basic human and civil right that we have which is the right to life. To do so is to be faithful both to God and the vision of the Founding Fa-thers of this nation. If we succeed, we will restore the foundation of our Republic as one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.
