This is a quick read and truly inspirational. Below is what publisher has to say about the book: Are you happy? It may be the wrong question. Most of us think we are relatively happy, while at the same time knowing that we could be happier—maybe even a lot happier. Ordinary people and the finest philosophers have been exploring the question of happi- ness for thousands of years, and theories abound. But this is not a book of theory. Re- sisting Happiness is a deeply personal, disarmingly transparent look at why we sabo- tage our own happiness and what to do about it. Are you overwhelmed? Do you procrastinate? Do you sometimes feel like you are your own worst enemy? Are you ignoring your dreams? Have you lost the courage to truly be yourself? Do you feel that your life lacks meaning and purpose? Do you find yourself avoiding the real issues in your life and focusing on the superficial? Breaking through resistance, Kelly tells us, is essential to becoming the-best-version-of- ourselves and living with passion and purpose. What is resistance? It’s that sluggish feeling of not wanting to do something that you know is good for you. It’s the inclination to do something that you unabashedly know is not good for you. It’s the desire and tendency to delay something you should be doing right now. It is resistance that stands between you and happiness. In these pages you will learn not only what it is, but how to recognize and conquer it in your own life. The approach is simple. Pick up your free copy today and let this book fill your life with the love and peace of God. A NEW YEAR’S PRAYER Dear Lord, We pray that this New Year will bring us closer to You. May we take the time to get to know You. Help us to truly celebrate the gifts You have graciously given us and use them to serve You and spread Your word. May we also see and love you in all the people we meet, so that in turn, they can see You in us. We know that all human relations take time if they are to grow and deepen. This is also true of our relations with You, the Father and the Holy Spirit, which must grow over the course of our lives. In this new year, let us realize that every action of ours no matter how great or small enables us to be in touch with You. Let us accept You in our lives, in the way it pleases You, as Truth, to be spoken, as Life, to be lived, as Light, to be lighted, as Love, to be followed, as Joy, to be given, as Peace, to be spread about, as Sacrifice, to be offered among our relatives, friends, neighbors and all people. Amen.

WEEKEND LITURGICAL MINISTRY SCHEDULE

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION “And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 Mary is the perfect role model for living a stewardship lifestyle. She listened to God and said “yes” to His invitation to be the Holy Mother of His son. She also trusted in God’s providence on a daily basis. As we start a new year, take time every day to listen to how God is calling you; trust that He has a better plan for you than you could ever imagine.

WEEKLY PRAYER INTENTION That the prayers of the Mother of God may strengthen all mothers to follow her example of welcoming new life despite fear, doubt, and uncer-tainty, we pray to the Lord.

A Life Message….. A resolution for the New Year: We might resolve to start every morning with a short prayer: “Good morning, Lord. Thank You for extending my life for one more day. Please grant me a special anointing of Your Holy Spirit so that I may do Your holy will today and avoid everything evil.” We are advised to transform our daily work into prayer by offering it to God early in the morning. Besides the family prayer and Bible reading, we might also resolve to say a short prayer, every evening, the last thing we do before we go to sleep: “Thank You Lord for helping me to do Your will today. Forgive me, Lord, for saying ‘no’ to Your grace several times today. I am really sorry for all my sins of the day. Please pardon me.” And, as we close our eyes, we might say: “Good night, Lord. Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit." Have a Happy New Year, overflowing with a "Yes" to God our Father, to the Lord Jesus our Brother and to the Holy Spirit our Advocate and our Guide in every good deed His grace suggests! O, our God and our Hope, glory to You!

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE The gospel tells us “Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.” We would do well to imitate Mary in our New Year’s resolution. Instead of criticizing let’s “keep it in our hearts.” Criticism isn’t productive or well received anyway! ~ Bud Ozar

PARISH MISSION MARK YOUR CALENDAR

JANUARY 22-24 Please mark your calendars. Dr. Margaret Schlientz, a very good friend and my spiritual director for the past several years, will be in our three parishes conducting a parish mission Sunday thru Tuesday evening, January 22-24. She will speak at the Masses that weekend giving an overview of the purpose of a mission and the schedule. She will be presenting the evenings of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. She will also spend time with our youth as well as our senior parishioners. She will also be willing to pray individually with those who desire that. Margaret has a keen sense for the spiritual life and all that goes on within us as we try to become disciples of the Lord and grow daily in holiness. She has a tremendous amount of experience in retreats and conferences. She has been trained as a psychiatric nurse and as a spiritual director. She has conducted retreats all over the world and is very much down to earth as she guides others in their spiritual life. There will be more information to follow but for now mark your calendars (January 22-24). Trust me that time with her will be very much worth it. Also please begin praying for a successful retreat.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Friends Feast is Monday, January 9th from 5:30 to 7:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. This is a free meal to anyone! Community Blood Drive Tuesday, January 17th from 1:00 to 6:00pm at St Joseph Church in Elk Point.

CHALK BLESSING Next weekend is the Feast of the Epiphany and our priests will be blessing pieces of chalk to be used to bless your house for 2017. There will be a prayer to be used and an explanation of the tradition.
