St Lawrence & Mary Immaculate Parish Balcatta: Parish Priest: Fr Emil Ciecierega SDS Assistant Priest: Fr Adam Babinski SDS The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacratissimum Cor Iesu in Latin) is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Catholic devotions, taking the heart of the resurrected Body as the representation of the love by Jesus Christ God, which is "his heart, pierced on the Cross", and "in the texts of the New Testament is revealed to us as God's boundless and passionate love for mankind". In the Roman Catholic Church, the liturgical Solemnities of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated the first Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi, or 19 days after Pentecost Sunday. [ The popularization of this devotion in its modern form is derived from a Roman Catholic nun from France, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her between 1673 and 1675, [3] and later, in the 19th century, from the mystical revelations of another Roman Catholic nun in Portugal, Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart, a religious of the Good Shepherd, who requested in the name of Christ that Pope Leo XIII consecrate the entire world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Dear Parents and Friends Inspiring Christ-Centre Leaders Reports I have enjoyed the privilege of reading the Semester One Reports over the last few weeks. I hope that as parents, you gain a greater understanding of your child’s strengths, skills and achievements over this First Semester. In addition, the Reports provide information about what your children need to work at, in order for further progress and accomplishments to be achieved. I acknowledge the teachers for their many hours of work on these Reports, both in terms of collating their assessments, assigning grades and drafting and editing comments; all whilst dealing with their regular classroom responsibilities. Please take the time to read your child’s report, discuss their learning with them and follow up with your child’s teachers if you require. Learning at Home Tips

Continuing on from the last few weeks and given that children spend as much as 75 of their time at home those children whose parents support their learning tend to be more motivated engaged and enthusiastic in school and are more likely to achieve their full potential Making Mistakes is Okay Kids often see mistakes in a very negative way Foster a positive outlook through openly chatting about your own mistakes - lsquoOne mistake I made today washelliprsquo Encourage your child to talk about any mistakes they have made and help them think of solutions Cooking Possibly one of the easiest ways to help support your child across a range of subjects is through cooking or baking Kids love cooking and by getting them to help you prepare meals you can incorporate learning without having to find any extra time Board Games Playing board games such as lsquoSnakes amp Laddersrsquo lsquoLudorsquo lsquoJunior Scrabblersquo and lsquoMonopolyrsquo are fun ways of teaching kids how to share take turns and how to be a good winner or loser They also develop numeracy and literacy skills Other games such as lsquoHangmanrsquo and lsquoI Spyrsquo help with spelling and phonetic awareness

PARISH CHILDRENrsquoS LITURGY What a wonderful turnout for the childrenrsquos mass last Sunday On behalf of the parish a big thank you

to all the parents for bringing your children along they read and sang beautifully and made our Sunday

celebration special We have one more week of childrenrsquos liturgy for the term The next childrenrsquos

mass will be on Sunday 28 July This is the first weekend after the school holidays It would be great

to have as many children as possible attend and participate so keep the date in mind

A big thank you to Mrs Tucker for playing for us and encouraging the children Have a good rest of

term and a great holiday Mrs Toni Mattiaccio Childrenrsquos Liturgy Co-ordinator

CLASS NEWS

YEAR THREE

Our class STEM excursion was amazing Children got to use the

engineering- design process to build a rocket out of specific

materials Then they were able to pump air into their rocket and

launch it to see how far it would go Well done to Nikolina and

Reece whose wonderful deign travelled the furthest

In the last few weeks of this term and early next term we will

commence a STEM project The best design will then be

submitted into the STEM competition organised by Servite The

children will need to design and build a model of a futuristic

home for a flood zone The project will be done in class time but

the children will be allowed to bring materials from home that

will help with their construction

During our Maths lessons we have been exploring 3D shapes and

this week we will be teaching our Kindy buddies how to construct

these shapes using plasticine

Just a reminder that on Friday morning the children will partake in a Constable Care incursion With

the winter season upon us lets prayer that we all make it to the holidays strong and healthy
