MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

In Bap sm we are reborn as children of God, made members of His Church, and heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven. With this in mind, we welcome these children of God who were

baptized on May 22, 2016:

Anja Acuna daughter of Dubbie & Jessica; Owen Acuna son of Dubbie & Jessica; Joseph Thomas Jackson son of Dean & Jillian; Alyssa Marie Santos daughter of Angel & Marie; Emma Grace Woodson daughter of William & Ann

Peace and good! As we gather to celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, “Let us ask ourselves…adoring the Christ truly present in the Eucharist: do I let myself be transformed by Him?” (Pope Francis). Pope Francis poses the following insights and questions in his 2013 Corpus Christi homily:

Jesus … gives Himself to us in the Eucharist, shares our same journey – indeed, He becomes food, real food that sustains our life even at times when the going is rough, when obstacles slow down our steps. The Lord in the Eucharist makes us follow His path, that of service, of sharing, of giving – and what little we have, what little we are, if shared, becomes wealth, because the power of God, which is that of love, de- scends into our poverty to transform it. Let us ask ourselves, adoring the Christ truly present in the Eucharist: do I let myself be transformed by Him? Do I let the Lord who gives Himself to me, guide me to come out more and more from my little fence, to get out and be not afraid to give, to share, to love Him and others?

As Catholics, the ancient tradition of Eucharistic Adoration has provided individuals the opportunity for prayer, reflection, and deepening one’s relationship with God. This prayer experience affords an individual to simply spend time sitting or kneeling in total silence, gazing upon the consecrated Host, which is the body of Christ. This prayer is called "adoration" since its focus is simply to adore God's presence made real and visible in the Blessed Sacrament. The purpose of Eucharistic Adoration is to deepen our desire to be open to God's love, mercy, and guidance. On behalf of our parishioners who make a holy hour each week, I invite you to join us for Eucharistic Adoration each Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. You are also invited to join our parishioners on the First Fridays of each month for Mass at 7:30 pm and Eucharistic adoration from 8:15 pm to 7:30 am on Saturday morning. As a parish community, let us continue to be transformed by Christ through the gift of the Eucharist.

And Jesus said – “Feed My Sheep”

The Outreach Meal Team is here to help with that. We need volunteers to assist in preparing meals and delivering them to our Parishioners who need temporary help. We try to assist people just home from the hospital and who could use a little help with meals. Or perhaps we could help a new mother who needs an assist with meals for a week.

Call Outreach at 703-880-4343, leave your name and number and the coordinator of the Meals Committee will contact you about this great opportunity to assist in a very important aspect of Outreach.

And Jesus will say unto you “Feed My Sheep” John 21:17

The parish recently purchased the following CD listed below from Lighthouse Catholic Media.

Abba or Allah In this informative talk, Dr. Scott Hahn explores some of the most important beliefs that distinguish Christianity from Islam. He explains that while both religions trace themselves back to Abraham, the differences, including our understanding of God as Father, are not insignificant. With charity, balance, and candor, Dr. Hahn shows us how Islam presents the most formidable challenge to Christianity in the Third millennium.
