Pastoral Letter [The Pastoral Letter will be written by a different member of our pastoral staff each week. This letter will be reflective of the readings or Gospel for that Sunday and will be written through the lens of their ministry here at our Parish. We hope you will enjoy the perspectives of the wonderful staff we have here at St. Joseph’s.]

God, Family, Work. This is a list of priorities I have heard people say over the years and I’ve even said the same thing to myself. The words sound so simple, but yet we just gave ourselves a tall or-der to fill by saying that these are our top priorities. In fact, our gospel message this week tells us that this list of priorities connects directly to the two most important commandments. Giving all of ourselves to God is indeed a big challenge. How do we even begin to measure how much Love we have? How do we have any love left for any of our other priorities if we give it all to God? Have you ever put someone else’s needs ahead of your own? For me, I can count numerous times where I’ve gladly said “yes” when I should have said “no.” I reference this question because I too find it equally challenging to “…love your neighbor as yourself” a great challenge when my first incli-nation would be to treat my neighbor better than I would myself. So how do we live our life of faith in action and make sense of what is being asked of us above? I’m reminded how important it is to have God out in front. By making God part of our everyday lives, we can demonstrate the love we have for Him. When we ask God to be part of our everyday decisions, pray for His wisdom and strength, and share His Love through our actions with each other, our neighbors, our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, then we have taken a step toward achieving that priori-ty list. We’ve given ourselves the opportunity to Love ourselves by making our relationship with God a priority in our own lives which equips us with all that we need to share that love with others. As we continue to live a life of abundance, we are blessed to be able to live our faith in action here at St. Joseph through the many wonderful liturgies, faith formation classes, and parish ministries that allow God’s love to be seen by many. As we continue through ordinary time and prepare for advent, please keep all of our faith filled activities in prayer as we continue to love and serve the Lord. Michael J. Spillman Director of Business Administration

BALANCE Today’s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn’t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in reli-gious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus reminds us of the ne-cessity for both in the life of faith. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

The Bethlehem Christian Families The Holy Land

November 18 & 19 2017, the Bethlehem Christian Families will be here to sell their hand carved

religious articles made of olive wood. The sale of these precious articles supports their Church Mission which is to maintain the roots and the existence of the Christian Families who are struggling to remain in Bethlehem. At least ninety percent of the funds raised through these sales go directly to Christians living in the Bethlehem area. The proceeds will create more work which will help them to survive and stay in the Holy Land since they have no other source of income and are dependent on the olive wood industry.

Thank You for your support and generosity.

Thank you to all the families who participated in our photo directory,

you made it a great success.

As soon as we receive our new parish directories we will

let you know. Father Miguel

¿Qué significa amar a Dios?

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
