There is a difference between unfolding and being surrounded by a covenant and becoming unraveled by

the situations we find ourselves in. Advent offers us a time to ponder the paradox of our lives. We live with

expectation of things promised and things eternal while we enter into the complexity of living our faith on

earth. God longs for us to unfold the layers of mystery and love given for all ages and specifically in this time

for us.

Our Gospel invites us to find within this unfolding the uncertainty of time or place. Uncertainty is not

something in most of our comfort zones. We like to have a knowledge and certainty of timing. We like

schedules when they are accurate. The opposite is also true. We can get unraveled when things we

thought for certain are not certain any longer. To enter into the mystery of the unfolding action of God’s

covenant I think we can use the opposite doorway, experiences we might all be familiar with. When do we

become unraveled, especially with this week’s reflection on the uncertainty of time?

Just two weeks ago I decided to energize my discipline to walk malls and stay fit. I figured a new pair of Nike

shoes would help do the trick. I had received an email with a 20% off coupon from Nike and I found a pair a

liked online. I ordered the pair and then clicked on the cart so I could check out. It would not open. I tried it

5 times, but still there was no change in the result. I turned off the computer, rebooted it and retried my

order, because I really wanted these shoes. Time and time again, the cart would not open. I began to

become unraveled. I tried to find a phone number to call so I could place the order that way. The website

offered chat options, but no phone number. I kept looking, hitting the contact us button, but it sent me to

live chat which also wouldn’t open. Finally under the return policy I noticed a phone number. The customer

service representative was kind and said she would take my order over the phone, but then my credit card

was declined. I know it shouldn’t be declined, so I had to get off the phone with Nike and call the credit

card company. They said they didn’t know anything about the decline. Since the Nike Service Rep

suggested I use a different browser to order online, I hopped back on the computer and used Google

Chrome to access their site. I was still determined to get the shoes, but the process was no longer energizing,

but really frustrating. The unraveling continued. This time I got the shopping cart to open, but then it asked

me to provide a security number that was going to be sent to my phone, so I could verify I was making the

charge. I love them protecting me, but by the time I got the code and entered it, the Nike website would

not let me process the order. Then I had to enter a new credit card and begin all over again. Finally with all

of these attempts I achieved success and the order was processed. After two hours on the computer I was

unraveled and unhinged. What I did to energize myself ended up frustrating me. This is the paradox we live

in.

At an unexpected time God visits, at a time when obstacle after obstacle prevents us from the event

unfolding before us, God's covenant gets lost. It will never be at a time when we think and where we think. I

was so focused on getting the shoes and overcoming the barriers that I lost track of valuable time. God

understands our fixation on the things of this world and wants to blanket us with the constant unfolding of

more layers of His love. God is more focused and has more passion for us and our hearts than I had to

purchase the shoes. He is more focused on overcoming the barriers we use to protect and secure ourselves

with the false security of this world than we can imagine. He invites us to look at how and why our lives

become unraveled and to let Him peal back the surrounding folds of His unconditional love.

The invitation is presented to us, at a time when we do not know, in a place where we do not expect, the

great revealing of His love will occur. Will you be prepared?

Saint Peregrine is the universal patron saint of those afflicted with cancer and chronic and incurable illnesses.

The Mantellate Sisters Servants of Mary of Plainfield are the hostesses to monthly gatherings held on the

Saint Peregrine. We will celebrate the liturgy together, proclaiming the Sunday scriptures. All gatherings will

include a blessing with a first class relic of Saint Peregrine and a reception.

All of us are recipients of many blessings from God. In return, He expects that we praise Him for His

goodness and thank Him for His generous gifts. Thanking, however, is not done in word only, but in deed, also.

Due to early printing deadlines for the holiday, November 24 collection totals will be published in the

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2019

ADORATION CHAPEL PRAYER

O Lord, when I look upon you in the Blessed Sacrament, my human eyes see only

bread, but when I gaze upon you with the gift of faith, I see your most precious

body, blood, soul and divinity. I thank you, Lord, for the treasure of really believing in

your Eucharistic Presence. What a privilege it is to kneel before you, the Lord of

history and creation. And, if that is not enough, to realize how very anxious you are

to have me bring to you all my burdens and cares so that you can strengthen me

with your most tender graces. Lord, won’t you please draw other members of our

parish family to the Adoration of your real presence, that they may refresh their souls

in the Sacrament of your love. Fill the empty house with adorers and fill their hearts

with your most merciful love.

OUR LADY OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT, PRAY FOR US.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is on Monday, December 9

(Feast is transferred from First Sunday of Advent)

Come to Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, December 6

In preparation of this sacred day, thanking our Lord for the gift of His Blessed Mother.

REVERSE FOOD COLLECTION MINISTRY

Once a month, along with the regular collection basket, a separate basket is distributed filled with slips

listing non-perishable food items. Parishioners are encouraged to take slips from the basket, purchase the

items, and then return them to the narthex of the church the following weekend at any of the Masses.

After the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday, Saint Anne volunteers collect the food items and transport them to the

Kendall County Food Pantry in Yorkville where the items are unloaded and sorted. Saint Anne Parish is one of

the major contributors to the food pantry and the food pantry depends greatly on our food contributions.

Volunteers for this ministry are always welcome. It requires about 2 1/2 hours of time each month to load

vehicles, transport the food and sort the items for future distribution.

If you are not able to shop, the Food Pantry accepts cash donations. For every $1 you donate, the Pantry

can purchase over $6.00 in food from the food bank. You may place your donation in the collection the

weekend of the Reverse Food Collection . Checks are to be made out to Kendall County Community Food

Pantry.

For more information or to become a volunteer, contact Willie or Jay

Vidmar, 815-436-6664 or by email: [email protected] or [email protected].

Please put “reverse collection” in the subject line to distinguish it from spam

mail.

This week (December 2-4) is RE Reconciliation Week

All students will come on their regular day/time for class. Students in 3rd – 6th will participate in a special prayer

service during part of class time and are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation

when their class goes.

First Reconciliation Celebrations Next Saturday

This year we have 126 grade 2 students preparing to receive their First Reconciliation! The

Reconciliation services for these children and their families are scheduled for next Saturday,

December 7 at 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and Noon. We ask the whole parish community to keep them in

prayer as they draw closer to receiving the loving mercy of Jesus in this special Sacrament for the first time!

It’s time for a short break! DASH 2 & 3 sessions return on Sunday, December 8 –

reconciliation day combined with a session. Every single teen in DASH 2 & 3 will

meet from 4:30–6:30 PM.

DASH 2 make sure to complete modules 1 – 5 of your online Catholicism 101 class.

Modules must be completed by December 6! And your “All About Me” reflection is

due on December 8.

HUGE shout out to the 46 students (6th – 8th

graders) and 14 adults who participated in

our November 14 DASH night. Everyone

came together after the focus Mass to

create Plyarn (aka plastic yarn). The balls of

plyarn will be given to a group who

crochets them into mats for the homeless.

Lots of hands (and bags) made the task of

caring for the environment (reusing plastic

bags with a purpose) and helping the

homeless take an edge of the cold, wet

ground if they are sleeping outside, so

much easier!

MISSION STATEMENT God has called us to be Christian witnesses

by the precious gift of our Catholic faith

through Baptism. Just as Saint Anne had a

role in God’s plan so do each of us. We are

called to faithfully teach and live the

message of Jesus. We listen to God’s word,

grow in our understanding of it and respond

to it through outreach and service in our

own parish as well as the wider community.

We exercise our responsibility to develop

and see the gifts God has given us for the

common good and to insure that our

Eucharistic celebrations are truly joyful and

meaningful.
