The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is asking for help with our 2021 Christmas program! Specifically, we need donations of non-perishable food items and small stocking stuffers for children ages 1-16. If you

are able to help us in this endeavor, bring your items to Mass and place them in the tub in the vestibule with the SVdP name on it. We also have a list of ideas posted on the tub if you need some inspiration!

(We’ll be asking for volunteer shoppers to help with larger gifts in November!)

Dearest St. Joseph,

at the word of an angel, you lovingly took Mary into your home. As God’s humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethlehem, welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, and fled far from your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for those entrusted to you. May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and safeguard God’s most precious gift of life. Help us to faithfully commit our-selves to the service and defense of human life—especially where it is vulnerable or threatened. Obtain for us the grace o do the will of God in all things. Amen.

Please remember that, all through the month of

November, we will have our All Soul’s Altar on

display. You can bring in pictures of your deceased loved ones and leave them in the box in the vestibule.

You may also bring them to the parish office. Please label all pictures.

Pray— Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be Reflect—In October, the Church in the United States observes Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is Respect Life Sunday. During this Year of St. Jo-seph, the humble and often hidden carpenter of Nazareth is guiding our reflec-tions on the gift of life. At the word of an angel, Joseph took Mary into his home, despite the mysterious nature of her pregnancy. He accompanied Mary in her pregnancy, assisted at the birth of the Messiah, presented Jesus in the Temple, fled with his family far from their homeland to protect them, and lovingly raised Jesus as his own son. Like every other human family, the Holy Family had to confront real and concrete challenges. Yet, “in every situation, Joseph declared his own ‘fiat’” (Patris corde, 3). His “yes” to the Lord meant that regardless of the hardship and personal sacri-fice to himself, he consistently chose to put the needs of Mary and Jesus before his own. Joseph’s devotion helps reveal to us our own call to show special care for the lives of those whom God has entrusted to us. Joseph shows us how to say “yes” to life, despite our own fears, frailties, and weaknesses. May his witness of courage and faithful trust in the Lord inspire us to welcome, safeguard, and defend the pre-cious gift of life.

Feast Day – October 11 1826-1887 As a child in Madrid, Spain, Manuela Torres Acosta reportedly was more intent on getting playmates to pray than to play. In 1851, she and six companions were invited by a Servite priest to provide home care to the sick of his parish. Taking the name Maria Soledad to honor Our Lady of Sorrows and overcoming her fear of nursing, she became a founder of the Handmaids of Mary Serving the Sick. As superior for 35 years, she oversaw the congregation’s rapid expansion and battled government op-position; she was canonized in 1970. One of her novices said, “Mother Soledad is like an anvil; she is constantly taking a beating.”
