How we started on the iPads

• Student in the classroom diagnosed at end of 1st grade with dysgraphia, a learning disability that provokes the inability to write

• Started using Evernote, an app that he downloaded on his personal iPad and I downloaded on my Mac laptop

• Changed Ricky in the classroom, the class was interested and engaged in the work he was doing

Nativity Projects

• We studied the story of the Nativity in religion

• At Christmas time we toured the church, the school and browsed the internet looking for depictions of the Nativity

• We took pictures using the iPads

• Using the drawing app on the iPads, the children created their own Nativitys

Using the iPads to Interpret Content in

Social Studies

• Before the iPads we would use the online component of Scholastic News reading it and reviewing keywords

• With the iPads, the students had their choice of what content they wanted to focus on and how they wanted to present it using Toontastic

Using the iPads to Create Content in Social

Studies

• Using Toontastic the students were able to interpret the information and present it in a format that allowed for deeper understanding

Apps we used in the classroom • Brain Pop Jr. – used for social studies, phonics, reading

comprehension, math concepts. Free app, requires a subscription• Banana Math - Banana Math App is a fun app to help kids learn

elementary math and practice for tests. • Evernote - Note-taking app, can insert photos into notes • Math Blaster - Practice addition in game format • SketchBookX - Use professional-grade tools and brushes to create

doodles, quick sketches or artwork on-the-go• Tapquiz Maps - Learn the countries of the world through a fun and

engaging game! Just tap the answer to each question on the map. Keep track of your progress through the statistics page so that you will always know where you can improve.

• Toontastic - Create animated stories, can publish to ToonTube, controlled website with class account
