Please help us welcome our new Youth Ministry Coordinator of St. Joseph Parish and St. Vincent De Paul Mission church,

Mrs. Leah Monroe!

My name is Leah Monroe and I am humbled, blessed, and excited to be the new Youth Ministry Coordi-nator for St. Joseph Parish. I grew up in Salinas, CA and graduated from UC Davis in 2007 with a degree in Human Development. During my time at Davis, I was involved at the Newman Center where I met my hus-band, Jordan. In 2008, I was a Jesuit Volunteer in the Oak Park area of Sacramento, working at St. Hope’s preschool. While studying for my teaching credential, I became a catechist for the Confirmation Program at my parish in Corona, CA. In 2011, my husband and I got married and three years later, moved back to Northern California and had our beautiful daughter, Gwendolyn.

My family and I have been parishioners at St. Joseph Parish for the past 2 years and have enjoyed work-ing with the different ministries and programs in the parish. I am very excited to be part of the Youth Minis-try and Confirmation Program in a whole new capacity. I look forward to building new relationships with the candidates and families. I am also very excited about the Pilgrimage to France and Italy and hope to continue to bring experiences like these to the families of our parish. I also look forward to working with the High School Youth Group and guiding them to a closer friendship with God. As a teenager, Youth Ministry was a safe place for me to talk, learn and explore my faith. As an adult, I hope to create that environment here and bring that opportunity to the youth of St. Joseph Parish as well.

Knights of Columbus Council 7241

Our hearts and prayers go out to all those effected by the hurricanes on our East coast.

“When Father McGivney founded this organization in 1882, he did so with the intention of helping those most in need,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “Today we are happy to continue this legacy in nu-merous ways through our works of charity. But we honor this vision in a special way with our ministry to those affected by disaster. When our neighbors are left with nothing, Knights are among the first to rush in and help them get back on their feet.”

The Order was one of the first organizations to pro-vide financial support to families of fallen first re-sponders following the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.

When Typhoon Haiyan struck central Philippines in late 2013, the Supreme Council approved $860,000 for humanitarian relief.

Knights came to the aid of victims of Hurricane Mat-thew. Knights of Columbus Charities raised more than $100,000 dollars for emergency relief.

The stories of charitable assistance in our Country and abroad go on and on. It is not for the spotlight, or for the recognition. It is because the bases of Father Mi-chael J. McGivney, in forming the Knights of Colum-bus, was to offer assistance to the families of Brothers in need. Its basis has expanded to a worldwide charita-ble organization. I would guess, Father McGivney never would have imagined his work would grow to such an order.

Consider joining the Knights of Columbus and becoming a part of this Great Catholic Fraternal Organization.

Forgive Others

There are many kinds of alms the giving of which help us to obtain pardon for our sins; but none is greater than that by which we forgive from our heart a sin that someone has committed against us.

Perdona a Otros Hay muchos tipos de limosnas que nos ayudan a

obtener el perdón de nuestros pecados; pero ninguna es superior a cuando perdonamos de corazón un pecado que se ha hecho contra nosotros.

A Reflection from Deacon Dennis Merino

Dear, Sacred Trinity, Please have Mercy upon me a sinner and grant me the Grace to show Mercy. I think it would be safe to say Mercy is the theme of these readings, today. It’s not just being blessed with God’s mercy, but our challenge to show mercy to others. Much, much easier said than done. What about the person who hurts, betrays, rejects, cheats or hates me? What if that person is someone who is supposed to love me, a family member, a longtime friend a business associate, a parishioner, a deacon? What then? What if the hurt is so deep I can’t get over it? As the first reading from Sirach tells us …” Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight”… In doing Men’s work in prison, I learned there are basically four emotions for all of us….. “Mad, Glad, Sad, and Fearful”… All of these emotions make us who we are and are good. All of them. They can also be, for us our biggest challenge. Anger is the easiest one for us to touch. It stems from something deep within each of us, our wounds, and our history. Here’s the catch… Anger alone is not sinful. It can keep us safe in a myriad of ways. It’s only when we conscientiously hang onto it, unforgiving, that it can become sinful. Don’t get me wrong…… I’ve done my share of hanging on. No way am I being self-righteous about this. For over thirty years I have prayed that God blesses me with patience. Yet, God, for His own purpose, has taken the opposite course for me. I deal with an explosive impatience. At the same time I understand it is due to my prison experience. I am at peace with this. If one can ever be at peace with tremendous regret. I tell you this in hopes that you will understand we need, first of all, to show mercy to ourselves. These readings, today, are like the Balm of Gilead for our souls. …”The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger and rich in compassion.”… …”He pardons all our iniquities, heals all our ills. Not according to our sins does He deal with us or pay back to us according to our crimes. He doesn’t punish us in this life due to our sins.”… …”As far as the East is from the West so far has He put our transgressions from us.”… The only commandment Jesus gave us is ….”Love one another”… We can never have Peace without doing just that, for others and for ourselves. May the Peace of Christ, which overwhelms us all, be with you forever.
