“For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can

boast about it” EPHESIANS 2, VS. 8-9

Hospitality: Join us for coffee and donuts in the Parish Hall after Mass on

Sundays.

This Sunday’s readings seem to indicate that the

Christmas message is not contained within the infancy

narratives and stories of the Holy Family, rather, they

include all of us who strive to live as disciples of the

Lord. All who testify to life in the Spirit received in

baptism look to all the prophetic figure of John the

Baptist, pointing to the Lamb of God, and emulate his

example. John echoes the message of Isaiah who, in

today’s first reading, recognizes God’s call to serve

his chosen people. In the second reading, Saint Paul

greets the Corinthians, affirming the joy of those who

serve the Lord.

Today, our technical advances in mass

communication allow us to better see the shadows of

our world. As members of the Church, how are we

called to be the light of Christ in the midst of those

shadows? Keeping this question in mind, it is

important for us to pray the today’s Psalm refrain

during this week: “Here am I, Lord; I’ve come to do

your will” (Psalm 40:2).

*******************************************

PARISH NEWS

2017 (ABCD) Begins One in Faith, One in Hope, One in Charity Understanding that we are made in the image and likeness of God can help us to understand why God put into the humanity of every man and woman the vocation – and thus the capacity and the responsibility – of love and communion. To live out this vocation requires a growth in virtue that leads us to make gifts of ourselves to God and to others. Your faithful and generous participation in the ABCD flows from God’s many blessings to you and to those you hold dear. Next weekend is the 2017 ABCD Commitment weekend. The ABCD supports all of the vital ministries and programs throughout the Archdiocese of Miami, and it is our one opportunity during the year to support all the people of God beyond the boundary of our own parish. Please prayerfully consider supporting the ABCD. Your gift directly helps our parish to pay its share of the important work of the archdiocese. Let us strive for 100% participation: not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice! We invite you to join us to be One in Faith, One in Hope and One in Charity. Imagine a gift that gives forever. That is what happens with an endowment. What you give today will strengthen our parish family by providing perpetual financial support. For more information on how to leave a legacy, contact the rectory or call the Office of Planned Giving at (305) 762-1110.

The second collection TODAY provides funds to reduce your parish debt. Thank you for your generosity. Great Sponsorship Opportunity: This year, our parish is celebrating 75 years as a Community (1942-2017). We will be publishing a Booklet with all our planned activities. Don’t miss this opportunity to advertise your company or your family in this commemoration booklet. Please contact the parish office for more information. You are an integral part of our parish history. (See page 5 for a list of our events to commemorate this milestone.) Do you know that Sex Trafficking is happening in plain sight in our city? 1.5 million children in the U.S. are lured into the trafficking industry. ******************************************************************* PARISH FINANCES - OCTOBER 2016
