MC-21 NEW GENERATION AIRCRAFT

MC-21 MEDIUM-RANGE AIRCRAFT WITH CAPACITY OF 163-211 SEATS
• 5-7% reduction in operating expenses, if compared to the best narrow-bodied aircraft.
• Advanced aerodynamics; more than 30% of composites; up-to-date on-board systems.
• Engines at customer's choice: Pratt & Whitney PW1400G-JM or United Engine Corporation PD-14.
• The best level of comfort in its class due to the maximum width of the fuselage.
The first MC-21-300 aircraft has been undergoing flight tests since 28 May, 2017.

THE SECOND MC-21-300 AIRCRAFT:
FLIGHT TESTS STARTED

• The maiden flight was performed on 12 May 2018 from the airfield of Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
• In production of the second test aircraft, testing results of the first test sample were taken into account.
• The white color has been selected for painting to demonstrate high quality of airframe surface and precision of
joints of fuselage sections.
• While flying in Irkutsk, the aircraft has accumulated nearly 14 flight hours and achieved altitude of 12,000 m, speed
of 0.8M, true speed of 850 km/h.
• Stability and controllability characteristics of the aircraft in various high-lift configurations, with extended and
retracted landing gear have been estimated.
• The measurement system of altitude/speed parameters has been calibrated to match them with their real flight
values.
• Various modes of the power plant operation have been tested, including turning-off and re-starting engine in flight.
• Operability of all aircraft systems has been checked.

THE SECOND MC-21-300 AIRCRAFT:
FLIGHT TO ZHUKOVSKY

On 20 July 2018, the second MC-21-300 test aircraft flew from Irkutsk to the airfield
“Ramenskoye” of Gromov Flight Test Institute (Zhukovskiy, Moscow Region).
• The flight lasted 6 hours.
• The flight proceeded in normal mode, all systems operated fault-free.

MC-21-300 FLIGHT TESTS PROGRESS

• Performance evaluation of aircraft systems within a wide range of speeds and altitudes has been implemented.
• Aircraft’s characteristics of various takeoff/landing and cruise configurations have been checked.
• Operability and characteristics of instrument landing system have been confirmed.
• Altitude of 12,500 m, speed of 0.81M (true speed of 881 km/h), flight duration of 6.2 hours have been attained.
• Stability and controllability have been estimated. Corrections for air data system have been obtained.
• Takeoff/landing characteristics for imitated failure of one engine have been estimated.
• Engines’ thrust response has been estimated, including for asymmetric operation.
• Flights to estimate stability and controllability characteristics of the aircraft in limit regimes have been
performed, while preparing for flights at high angles of attack.
Operability of all aircraft systems has been validated.
Systems maturation and software adjustments have been undergoing upon tests results.
Tests are ongoing.

NEW TESTING BASE

The following facilities allocated for MC-21 program have been put into operation at Flight
Testing Facility of the Yakovlev Design Bureau (an affiliate of Irkut Corporation):
• the hangar for MC-21 aircraft basing;
• the ground maintenance equipment complex;
• the complex of collection, processing, and analysis of flight information.

• The on-board measurement system records nearly 30,000 parameters.
• The telemetric equipment set provides tests control and obtaining measurements results in
real-time mode.
• The test complex is connected to the information exchange system uniting the major
participants of the MC-21 program.
New technologies for flight tests data processing provide
high information value of each flight.

• the third flight test aircraft is at the stage of airframe assembly;
• the fourth flight test aircraft is at the stage of fuselage sections assembly.

Static tests of the completely assembled aircraft at TsAGI:
• Aileron, air-brake, spoiler, and their wing fitting assemblies, fore and rear parts of wing
have undergone strength tests.
• Within airframe tests, flaps and slats are close to completion.
• Airframe tests for combined stress of excessive internal pressure and maximum vertical
G-load are under preparation.
The aircraft for endurance tests is being built at Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

In December 2017, the important stage of static tests of the composite wing box was successfully
completed in TsAGI. The strength reserve of the structure necessary for performing flight tests has
been experimentally confirmed.
In TsAGI, the test-bench for wing panel fatigue testing is under preparation.

• The isolated tests of high-lift devices and control devices with taking into account climatic
factors and impact damages has been completed. The strength of the units against
maximum possible loads in the most aggressive operational conditions has been
confirmed.
• High-lift devices and control devices have been successfully undergoing endurance tests.
• By June 2018, the horizontal empennage box has endured 125,000 flight cycles.
Tests are ongoing.

• The new stations of the automated final assembly line are being put into operation at Irkutsk
Aviation Plant;
• Performance of the line will be phased out stepwise to the maximum level;
• The sections panels designated for the initial serial aircraft samples has been delivered from
Aviastar-SP Plant to Irkutsk.

• The construction of Logistics Center has been completed at Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
• This center is designated for acceptance, storage, batching, submission for verification of
components, and their delivery to the assembly lines.
• The operation is ensured by the automated Warehouse Management System.
• Advancement of Logistics Center is synchronized with MC-21 serial production rump-up.

CONTRACT WITH AEROFLOT - RUSSIAN
AIRLINES

In 2018, the Avia Capital Services leasing company signed the contract
with Aeroflot - Russian Airlines on the operating leasing of 50 MC-21-300 aircraft.
• Delivery period is from 2020 to 2026. Lease term is 12 years with an option to renew.
• Layout features 16 business class seats and 153 economy class seats.
• This contract was signed in the development of the contract previously concluded between
Avia Capital Services leasing company and Irkut Corporation for the MC-21 aircraft delivery.
The total number of firm prepaid orders is 175 aircraft.
The total number of orders under agreements of intent is nearly 150 aircraft.

TECHNICAL TRAINING MEANS
Aeroflot and Irkut Corporation are creating the joint training center for MC-21 flight and
engineering personnel training.
• The center is to be equipped with eight simulators, including the integrated simulator
with mobility system (FFS Level D).
• The center is located at Sheremetyevo, the base airport of Aeroflot.
