ASHE - 1 Our President’s Message Wow - my head is spinning with what to say as I sit down to prepare this - my last message as President of the Harrisburg Section of ASHE. The time has passed so quickly and much has happened over the year(s). To the Board Members and many Committee volunteers I cannot say thank you enough for all of your support and dedication through the year. While the responsibilities are significant, I hope you found the time and effort re- warding. I know I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey serving the membership and the opportunity to interact with old and new colleagues. We did not have a meeting this month as we held our Annual ASHE/PennDOT Conference, which is to be followed by the Past President’s Banquet on May 3rd. I regret not being able to attend this year’s conference; I understand it was well attended and very informative. I hope the event was beneficial – many thanks to those volunteers who put the program together and to the speakers for their time and effort. The Program and Professional Development Committee did a great job this year. They arranged our first tour event, which took some cour- age to step outside the norm and I believe it will be a successful format for future events – Thank You! The Spring Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up is scheduled to occur after submission of my message – again we wanted to try something new to spur more participa- tion. Thanks to all those who participated. Our President’s MessageWow - my head is spinning with what to say as I sit

down to prepare this - my last message as President of the Harrisburg Section of ASHE. The time has passed so quickly and much has happened over the year(s). To the Board Members and many Committee volunteers I cannot say thank you enough for all of your support and dedication through the year. While the responsibilities are significant, I hope you found the time and effort re-warding. I know I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey serving the membership and the opportunity to interact with old and new colleagues.

We did not have a meeting this month as we held our Annual ASHE/PennDOT Conference, which is to be followed by the Past President’s Banquet on May 3rd. I regret not being able to attend this year’s conference; I understand it was well attended and very informative. I hope the event was beneficial – many thanks to those volunteers who put the program together and to the speakers for their time and effort. The Program and Professional Development Committee did a great job this year. there has been little movement at the State level. If we don’t see any movement after the April 24th primary it will likely be pushed out until 2013 after the elec-tions. Legislative Day is May 8th so let’s get out there and push the importance of passing a transportation funding bill now. You may visit the ASHE Harris-burg website to review up to date information on the transportation issues. And don’t be afraid to get family, friends, and colleagues involved.

I will bring this message to an end and say again that I enjoyed serving the members through the years, and I look forward to the Section’s continued suc-cess and great work. I encourage the members to get involved – whether you start out volunteering on a committee or jump in as a board member, it will be a rewarding experience.

I leave you with one of my favorite quotes, one which is a reflection of my mes-sage…..

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
