A strong selection of over 250 small tools and machinery implements inside meant a strong trade with plenty of people in the market looking for all types of items. Garden tools, once again, good to sell with garden lawnmowers and strimmers in strong demand especially spares and remains. Hand tools always good to sell with small livestock equipment eagerly bid for. A selection of garden plants and shrubs sold to a mixed trade. Outside in the yard machinery saw a Major Tanker sell to £4,200. Grass time machinery was also in strong demand and good to sell with a 21 foot Bale trailer selling to £2,800, a scaling out machine sold to £2,400 and an International 445D conventional hay baler sold to £1,100. Haybobs sold to a top of £1,100 with others selling in excess of £500 depending on the quality. A set of Dowdswell Disc sold to £2,000. In general a buoyant trade was had throughout with a good gathering of people especially with other sales on in the North West on the same day. J36 Machinery Sale Saturday 4th June

The monthly sale of Machinery and implements, once again, attracted over 600 lots for sale. A strong selection of over 250 small tools and machinery implements inside meant a strong trade with plenty of people in the market looking for all types of items. Garden tools, once again, good to sell with garden lawnmowers and strimmers in strong demand especially spares and remains. Hand tools always good to sell with small livestock equipment eagerly bid for. A selection of garden plants and shrubs sold to a mixed trade.

Outside in the yard machinery saw a Major Tanker sell to £4,200. Grass time machinery was also in strong demand and good to sell with a 21 foot Bale trailer selling to £2,800, a scaling out machine sold to £2,400 and an International 445D conventional hay baler sold to £1,100.

Monday 6th June A bigger show of Spring Lambs this morning at Lancaster, with 1136 selling to a ringside of new and existing buyers, a market average of 190ppk was achieved. Light weight lambs saw the fastest trade with 32kg and under averaging 200ppk. Top price per kilo was achieved by DJ Casson of Beaumont with 41kg Texels selling at 210ppk, top gross came from Colin Cowgill of FA Nowell & Partners with a smart 44kg Texel realising £92 or 209ppk. Best lambs either side of 200ppk with the heavier and leaner lambs pulling the average back. Prime Hoggs drying up fast, with only a handful forward, selling to 153ppk from LA Bradshaw, with light weight swales. Cast Sheep were also forward in big numbers with 154 put before a ring of buyers eager to secure sheep. A Texel ewe from Ripley School hit the top spot at £110, whilst Suffolks from W & A Alexander sold to £94. A big run from CA & J Alty, Warton topped at £89 for Charollais. Mules to £75 from the same good home, the majority of Mules wither side of £70, however buyers still cautious of the over fat sorts. Plainer lean sheep look well sold between £40 and £50. An overall average pennies short of £70.

As the Sheep and Lamb sales draw to a close, the trade is far from finishing, another nice run of Hoggs and lambs from RM Wilson, Horton in Ribblesdale sold to £172 with single Suffolk lambs and averaged £165 a family. A few older sheep from Steve Dingley, Aughton realised

just shy of £50 a life, or £98 a family.

Just a couple of Monty Prime Bulls from GA Haston & Son, Galgate today, selling to 147.5ppk and £851 per head.

Friday 27th May A catalogued entry of 181 Store Cattle of which 168 were forward. Opening the sale were two Angus Cows and Calves from Steve Dingley, Aughton, which sold to £1200 and £1220. Trade was sharp throughout for store cattle, with R & DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling topping the day at £1310, with a 29month Blue Heifer. Bullocks sold to £1190 for a pair from R & A Easterby, Carnforth. Angus bullocks to £1160 from DW & NM Alderson, Middleton and Angus heifers to £1080 from AS & D Parker, Nateby. Younger summering cattle still good to sell with a run of nice suckler bred Limousin bullocks from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton realising from £950-£1000 at 10-12months. More numbers are needed at these strong weekly sales to ensure buyers return, please advise entries to the office by the Monday prior to the sale. A good show of 88 Cast Cows today, with quality cattle being presented. A pleasing trade for all, topping at 149.5ppk for a Blonde Cow from DJ, A & L Sutcliffe, Winmarleigh. Top gross came from TA Chapman & Son, Helsington with a Lim cow totalling £1116. Friesian Cows sold

to 124.5ppk from TW Nelson, Stainton or £999 from I Atkinson & Son, Warton. Best meated Holsteins upwards of 100ppk, with the next

band down 91-98ppk.

Beef calves in plentiful supply this morning and there was a flying trade for the 40 calves forward from start to finish. Topping the sale was a

smart Blue Bull from JR Newsham, Galgate, realising £395. A run of younger blue bulls from Richard and Johnny Hoggarth, Slyne sold to

£390 for bulls at 9weeks, with others from the same home at 7weeks achieving £330-£340. Another nice run of Simmentals from Angie

Newsham saw 18day old bulls realise £265 and 13day heifers £275. Native calves to £370 for 6week old Angus Bulls from Wallbank Farms,

Abbeystead. WN & D Smith & Sons of Cockerham presented a great run of Holstein bulls between 8-10weeks, topping at £148 twice, all

black and white calves forward averaged £78. With trade like this, the auction really is the place to market calves and prices achieved are

well above any supermarket contracts.

There was 71 Beef Breeding Cattle forward at the NWA June Sale. A nice show of Heifers & calves sold well to a good ringside of buyers. Overall average £1492, with Cows & calves averaging £1257. Top price was £1950 for a Limousin Heifer with a Lim bull calf at foot from E J Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg Head. The weekly sale of Calves had a stronger entry of 40 forward. A strong trade throughout with plenty of people looking for all types of calves. Dennis Cottam of Hagg Farm sold a couple of British Blue bull calves at 5 weeks old, selling to £400 each. British Bull heifers sold to £390 from JW & TE Sharp of Flodder Hall. A consignment of Limousin calves from DR & C Galbraith of Sunny Bank. Strong black and whites easily sold in excess of £100 topping at £185 from RG & JA Clark of Low Audlands, with young black and white rearers regularly between £70 and £90. There was 1287 Prime Lambs and Hoggs forward today. Overall average for lambs was 194.7p/kg. Top price was £108 for a Suffolk lamb weighing 57 kg from W T Whitaker & Sons, Lane Ends. Top price per kilo was 244p for a pen of 39 kg Texels from A E Atkinson & Son, Stubb Farm. Swales and Roughs to £60 from RS Harker & Son, Grayrigg and JF Cook, Moss Howe.
