The clocks have just gone back so every day feels like a lie in, it’s
officially ok to start getting excited about Christmas. (48 days)
Welcome to November the month of thankfulness.
11th Veteran's Day honors all members of the Armed Forces who
served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and
fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way
of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me.
In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
13th Care Giver Appreciation Day, This is a very important day of
recognition for the tens of millions of Americans, who selflessly give
their time to care for those who are ill, disabled, or elderly.
22nd Thanksgiving is a very important holiday, especially in the busy
lives of Americans. It is a time to kick back and relax, watch a football
game or go to a movie, and enjoy a huge feast. It's also time for us to
give thanks to our God, for the things he has bestowed upon us and
upon this great nation. There is no nation in the world that has more to
be thankful for than us.
“Each day I am thankful for nights that turned into mornings, friends
that turned into family, and dreams that turned into reality.” Anonymous
Thank you Ron and Val Molendyk for hosting our October social !!!!

M&M Melt-your-mouth Fun Fact THERE’S A LOT OF NOSTALGIA FOR TAN M&MS
In the mid ‘90s, Mars decided that having both a tan and brown M&M was redundant and a bit too dreary
for a modern candy brand. So the company decided to replace tan with pink, purple or blue in a consumer
voting campaign that proved immensely popular. Fans eventually chose blue, of course, but 20 years later
there are those who look back fondly on tan as a muted relic of a bygone era. In the spirit of Paul Hethmon,
there have even been a few online petitions for the company to bring back tan.
Slauson’s 50th Anniversary Party Longtime OCV members Don and Betsy
Slauson recently celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary with a party at their Bakersfield
home. Several OCV members drove up to share
the special day. The party was put on by their
children. There were about 75 people in
attendance. Guests came from their old and new
Corvette clubs and churches, as well as
neighborhood and friends and family. There
were toasts and Don even sang a song to Betsy.

The October OCV Spooky Social was held Oct
16th at Benjie’s Deli in Tustin. Thirty-five people
attended. Many wore Halloween attire in honor
of the holiday. Everyone had a great dinner of
classic deli sandwiches and other entrees. Our
hosts, Ron and Val Molendyk and Michael and
Michelle Molendyk and their family provided
goody bags for all the attendees. There were
also gift prizes for a raffle after dinner. Donna
Mann won the top prize of a dinner for two at
Benjie’s. Many thanks to the Molendyk family for
organizing this annual event.

Chili Cook-off Party October 6th was the date of the somewhat
annual OCV Chili Cook-off. There were forty six
people on hand to find out who had the best chili
recipe. Everyone met at the spacious home of
Bob and Masako Burggraf with crock pots full of
chili, hot dogs, appetizers, salads, biscuits, corn
bread and all the fixin’s for a great chili contest.
The event started with a trivia game that let
everyone get a little better acquainted about
their past lives. Janet Cherry won, proving she
has had a very interesting life so far. Then it was
on to the chili tasting. There were sample cups
so everyone could take lots of tastes. When the
ballots were counted, Sue Lookman won 3rd
place, Cecil Blattenberg won 2nd place and the
big winner was Jerry Wheeler with his secret
ingredient. It was a great afternoon and many
thanks go out to Bob and Masako and everyone
else who helped plan, lent furniture and provided
prizes for the event.
