As the SJC director and SJC founder, it is our pleasure to wel-come you to this event to launch our new direction in social justice education. We are all very proud of the Educonnexion program - the first of its kind in Quebec - which is designed to empower and engage the citizens of tomorrow. It builds on the SJC approach that emphasizes cooperation over competition, and responding to challenges as a community, with new ideas. We are proud of our volunteers and interns, without whom the Educonnexion program and events like this one would not take place.

Social Justice Connection
Created in 1975, the Social Justice Connection (SJC) is an inde-
pendent human rights organization providing education and advo-
cacy on the subjects of global poverty and inequality. Conscious
that many of the world’s most impoverished peoples are victims
of social injustice, and inspired by the principles of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, its mission is to engage Canadians
in working for a more socially just world.
Formerly the Social Justice Committee of Montréal, the organisa-
tion has developed a reputation for providing thought-provoking
workshops on a wide range of topics, such as poor country debt,
food security and international trade.
Educonnexion
The SJC has launched its most ambitious project yet; the Edu-
connexion global citizenship and youth mentorship program. The
first bilingual youth mentorship program on human rights, social
justice and the environment, Educonnexion has been integrated
in 12 schools since its launch last September, with demonstrated
success in increasing youth engagement in social justice issues.
Drawing on SJC’s 40 years of public engagement and teaching,
this innovative program focuses on mentorship, capacity building,
and the development of skills, techniques and strategies, as well
as a thematic focus on key social and environmental issues.
“One of the best workshops I’ve ever taken.” Caterina Mi-
lani Head of International Initiatives, YMCA of Quebec, 2014
“Dynamic and passionate animator! I acquired a different view of the world.” Student, Collège Saint-Sacrement, 2013
“A source of motivation for our youth!” Linda Handiak Teacher, Social Justice Committee Coordinator, Vanguard School, 2010

Connexion justice sociale
