In Finland driving license and own car! Public transport is insufficient in the

rural areas, especially during the summer holidays of schools.

In Germany the closeness of relatives. Different kinds of social and health care

systems and cultures.

The rural areas in Finland and Germany face same problems

- services die out

- distances grow longer

But…Still there is a big difference between distances in Finland and Germany…

Page 13: Nfhk2011 virpi kuvaja-köllner et al_parallel27

The results are comparable only in the issues which have been presented

The aim of Emotionaal project was to support

with ICT solutions the elderly people in rural areas – but

in Finland the most thankful group has been the people from summer residences

The presence of a nurse increases the interest

to visit the health corner

Page 14: Nfhk2011 virpi kuvaja-köllner et al_parallel27

The respondents in Finland prefer to do health measurements at home, not in village shop or village school

Health corner alone does not attract people, there needs to be a person present – such as a nurse!!!

The respondents did not have a lot of interest to get more services to the village shop

Respondents in Finland had the feeling that they are worse off because they are living in sparsely populated areas – the services are not offered in all areas
