Our first parent/teacher afternoon was held last Monday. Thank you to all parents for organising time to meet with teachers to discuss your child’s progress and share your thoughts and ideas around ongoing learning. Appointments can be made with teachers at any time through our administration office.Good luck to The Henry Lawson High School Cattle Team. The team of fifteen students and ten head of cattle will be heading to the Blayney Show this weekend which will be a good lead in to the Royal Easter Show in April. Our students have put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into the cattle over the last eight weeks and I wish them all the best over the weekend.

Have a great week!Aaron FlaggPrincipal

Principal’s reportI was very pleased to hear that Karyl-Lee Durham in Year 11 had been accepted to attend the 2019 Dobell Drawing School at the National Art School in Sydney during the Easter holidays. This is a wonderful achievement that will enrich her interest in the field of art. Well done Karyl-Lee!I had the pleasure of visiting the open girls cricket team while they were playing against Orange High School last Wednesday. While it was great to hear that the girls had a convincing win, I was most pleased with witnessing amazing sportsmanship, positive encouragement of each other, a competitive spirit and perfect uniform. Their friendliness towards the opposition was also great to see. A big thank you to the parents who prepared watermelon, sandwiches, snack and drinks on the day. The continuing partnership between teachers, parents and students is vitally important for success.Thank you to all of our students who contributed to the Anti-Bullying Day on Friday to help spread the anti-bullying message. We believe all students have the right to be safe at school. Bullying and violence has no place at school or anywhere in our community. The national day of action is a positive day, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. Our day was celebrated with activities during sport time, a video which was uploaded to our Facebook page and a poster competition. While schools and educators have a key role to play in tackling bullying, we also know the important role parents and families play. We thank all parents for their contributions against bullying.

JUNIOR MATILDAS PROGRESS TO ASIAN CUP!Last month I travelled to Laos as part of the Under 16 Junior Matlidas football team, to play in the second round of qualifiers for the 2019 Asian Cup. We went into camp at the Gold Coast for a week and played two international friendlies against Myanmar, which we won. We arrived In Laos a week before the tournament to prepare. We played Iran, Vietnam and Laos and came away with three wins placing first in our pool. We have now qualified as one of eight teams in Asia eligible to compete at the Asian Cup to be held in Thailand at the end of September. It was a great experience and a couple of the highlights included going to Surfers Paradise with the Myanmar team, who had never been to the beach before. We were also invited to the Australian Embassy in Laos and spent the morning with the girls who receive academic scholarships from the Embassy, teaching them a few soccer skills. Anna Hunt

CHESSNUTS CONTINUE THEIR WINNING STREAK

On Tuesday 19 March, The Henry Lawson High School Chessnuts travelled to Forbes to compete against Red Bend in their first round match of the 2019 NSW Country Schools Chess competition. Dylan King and Brodie Petty both had quite competitive games with Dylan having a win, whilst Peter Armstrong, our number 1 ranked player, defeated his opponent in record time. The team was happy maintain their winning record against Red Bend and now progress to the second round. Afterwards we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and delightful lunch provided by Red Bend. All four team members, Sophia Huxtable, Brodie Petty, Dylan King and Peter Armstrong were great representatives for our school. Anyone wishing to practise, play or learn to play are welcome to join our chess group on Wednesdays during lunchtime in the library.
