RoSPA (Royal Society for thePrevention of Accidents), assessed theSouth Pole play area at Southern RoadRecreation Ground for ambience, forfacilities (from toddlers to teenagers)and for the site itself. South Pole ticksevery single box! The JudgesComments say it all: This well-managed site offers excellent play valueand accessibility. It scores very highmarks in all categories. Congratulationsare due to all who were involved in itsdevelopment. South Pole play areaopened in December 2008 and hasproved hugely popular with all agegroups.

South Oxfordshire District Council isproviding free parking in all its pay anddisplay car parks from 12 middayonwards on Saturdays in December.This means that in Thame, starting onSaturday 5 December, the Cattlemarketand Southern Rd (behind the CO-OP)car parks will be free in the afternoonsevery Saturday up to Christmas day.There is no need to buy a ticket, althoughthe maximum stay still applies.

Adult social care personal assistants cannow apply for approval by OxfordshireCounty Council 's Support withConfidence scheme, which trains andvets individuals wanting to work withadults requiring social care support, atno cost to the applicant. A register ofapproved personal assistants willbecome available to those seeking tohire one early next year. The scheme isthe first of its kind in the country and wasmodelled on the County CouncilTrading Standards department's Buywith Confidence initiative, a list ofchecked and approved businesses forresidents. Fire fighters and families fromOxfordshire County Council's Fire andRescue Service raised 3,782 in Thameon Friday when they collected moneyfor 15 hours outside Oxfordshirestations and other public places. 10 percent of the funds raised will be donatedto the Fire FightersCharity.

Thame Scouts will again be helping theelderly and disabled this Christmas byoffering a Christmas card collectionservice. Boxes will be placed aroundtown at the Thame Gazette office, theChocolate Box and the library. Cardsshould be posted by 4 December.

The Guideposts Trust needs volunteersfor Mates n Dates, a specialist datingand friendship service for adults withlearning disabilities in Oxfordshire.Volunteers are needed to assist the groupmembers at fun group events, such aspubs and clubs, meals out, cinema, andto chaperone arranged dates.
