March Madness March 15, 2015
Above, our opponents: young, young and young… Below, us: young (thanks to Meghan Tolentino), old (you know who you are) and in-between. Game is refereed by none other than Mr. Clay Imoo himself.
Below: I am sure someone shouted, “Mine!” and had a clean swipe at the ball. The Knights wrapped up the game in tidy and gracious fashion. K-N-I-G-H-T-S, go KNIGHTS!

As we depart through the lobby, it was comforting to see this iconic cross reminding us that suffering has redemptive value and that Christ has already won the victory for us! Let us claim it for the space and time we’re in.
It was nice to run into some familiar faces in that packed place, including Sis. Kathleen McDonagh above, who drove up all the way from Surrey, and St. Paul Parish Assistant Pastors past and present, from left to right: Fr. Nick Meisl and Fr. Dennis Flores, Fr. Tom Smith and Fr. Edwin Kulling, and Fr. Justin Huang.
Hon. Mark Warawa (MP from Langley) says that the government is currently in consultation regarding this decision so we need to write our MPs, who are hearing a lot from the “other” side.
Dr. Margaret Cottle advises everyone to be a caring presence to the ill and dying that they may not succumb to the pressure toward assisted suicide.
Alex Schadenberg wonders why, when Parliament has ruled 5 or 6 times against euthanasia, a non-elected Supreme Court can just overturn the law of the land.
Pastors were advised to “plow the ground that has been stomped on by the culture”. We need to capture the imagination of the culture, and to pray, pray, pray!

Fourth Degree Exemplification March 28, 2015

Above, 8 of the 10 Council 6855 members who stepped up to the Fourth Degree: Tom Lopez, Rolly Torralba, Wayne Mackey, Mario Cayetano, Michael Loh, Lawrence Belleza, Raimund Holzbauer and Rely Diego are flanked by 2485 FN Edgar Ursua and Fourth Degree Master and former State Deputy Wil Wilmot. Not pictured: Joe Liang, and Leo Ping. Below, SK Wayne was selected to deliver the appreciation remarks on behalf of the new Sir Knights; a good choice indeed as he traces his Knights roots from when he was a Columbian squire.
Above, emcee SK Maurice Fernandes recounts the biography of Class Honouree, the late PFN Keith McErlane. FN Edgar Ursua presents the certificate to his widow Lady Barbara and daughter Shelly. At right, Master of the Fourth Degree Wil Wilmot delivers the keynote address.

The Fourth Degree is the visible arm of the Knights of Columbus, as they take part in colourful regalia at public events and ceremonials. Above, the exemplification ceremony held at St. Monica Parish Centre. Below, the venue is transformed into a banquet hall packed from end to end.

Noteworthy
A friendly face at the Pastoral Centre: 6855 Vocations Chair Dominic Glasson-Garcia is now the Secretary at the Vocations Office, Archdiocese of Vancouver
Council 6855 was well represented by four Knights at the Regional Training Session last March 17 held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, including GK Lorenzo Ranada, Sundy Arca, Rely Diego and Joseph Lo. Above, Guy Precourt, Supreme Membership and Program Consultant, expounds on “How to Conduct a Successful Membership Drive” as State Membership Director Dan O’Hara looks on.
Awesome haul: as Founder’s Day coincided with Food Bank Sunday, 6855 was pleased to bring an extra generous helping of donations to the Richmond Food Bank so that all families will have something special to celebrate for Easter.
Council 6855 is pleased to welcome the pilgrim icon of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception this April 15 with a Marian Hour of Prayer (time to be announced) in St. Paul Church. All are enjoined to attend to honour our Lady and to pray for families and for Canada. The image is a copy of the original painting housed in the Cathedral Basilica Notre-Dame de Quebec in
Canada. The church and the Archdiocese of Quebec recently celebrated the 350th anniversary of the creation of the first parish in Canada, founded by Bishop Francois Laval under the patronage of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. This fulfilled the vow made by the first Jesuit missionaries on December 8,1635 — nearly 200 years before the Dogma was officially declared by the Church.
The 104th State Annual General Meeting and Convention will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel on 7551 Westminster Highway, Richmond from Friday April 24 to Sunday April 26. The event brings together delegates from each of the 134 councils and 37 assemblies comprising BC and Yukon to foster stronger working relationships, vote on resolutions and elect the new State Executive. All Third Degree Knights are welcome to attend the business meetings, as well as the Mass that starts each day (3pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday and Sunday). Volunteers are
needed for April 23 Wednesday from pm onward to set up all the council banners, and at the Registration Desk for the times below:
A great opportunity to see the statewide reach of our Order. Email [email protected] to sign up.
April 24 Thursday 8:30am to 1pm April 25 Friday 10:45am to 3:15pm April 26 Saturday 7:30am to 11:45am
