May we so live that all our children will be able toacquire our best virtues and to leave behind ourworst ailings. May we pass on the light o courageand compassion, and the questing spirit; and maythat light burn more brightly in these our childrenthan it has in us. Robert Marshall

    The connect ionBy Julie Vasquez

    1John 1:13,1421 Timothy 2:53Revelation 3:20

Gods idea o prayer is not a ritual, but loving and lively communica-tion between a ather and hisbeloved children.

But sad to say, most peopledont think they can talk to Godlike that. Some think theyre notreligious enough, not righteousenough, or not spiritual enough. Some think Hes too big, too arabove them. Some think Hes toobusy to be concerned about themand their problems, which theythink must seem aw ully pettyto Him. Some eel unworthy, notgood enough. Some eel guiltyor ashamed about things theyvedone. Some are even a raid o Him. I only they understood howdi erently God sees it!

God wants to have a personal

relationship with each o us, andHe wants it to be the deepest, most meaning ul, most ulfllingand rewarding, most natural parto our lives. Now thats not to sayHe wants to take away rom theother relationships and activitiesthat we enjoy and consider impor-tant. To the contrary, He wants tobe a part o all that. He wants to

make our day-to-day living easier,He wants to give the things weexperience greater meaning, andHe wants to enjoy them with us. Ina word, He wants to make our livesbetter. He wants to add a wonder-

ul new dimension to all that wedothe dimension o His lovingpresence.

How do we establish such arelationship, especially when we

eel small and unspiritual andunworthy? How do we make thatconnection?Through His Son,Jesus.

None o us can really grasphow great and wonder ul Godour Father is, because He andHis Spirit are greater than thewhole universe. Hes so beyondour comprehension that He hadto send us Someone who couldshow us His love, Someone we

could experience, Someone whocould bring God down to the levelo our limited human understand-ing. So He sent His Son, Jesus.

Jesus lived or thirty-threeyears on Earth in human orm andexperienced the joy and sorrowsthat we as humans experience. 1

Jesus has been here, so He canunderstand us and be the link

between us and God. 2We can get personal with Jesus.

He even told us to ask Him intoour hearts: Behold, I stand at thedoor and knock. I anyone hearsMy voice and opens the door, Iwill come in to him and dine withhim, and he with Me. 3 Hes theOne we can have direct, personal

    I G F , !

contact with. He is the One we canapproach God through.

I you have prayed to receiveJesus as your Savior, you alreadyhave that connection. I not, youcan make it right now by sincerelypraying a simple prayer like the

ollowing:Dear Jesus, I believe You are the

Son o God and that You died orme. I need Your love to cleanse me

rom my mistakes and wrongdo-ing. I now open the door o myheart and ask You to please comeinto my li e and give me Your gi to eternal li e. Amen.

W H AT I S G O D L I K E ?Some people picture God as anall-seeing eye carrying around abig stick, ready to clobber them;or as a cruel tyrant, some kind omonster who is trying to rightenthem into hell. But actually, Heis love! He is our loving heavenlyFather who is trying to loveeveryone into heaven. Hes soclose, so intimate, so personal,so loving, so kind, so tender, sogentle, so concernedand Heswaiting with open arms. In the parable that Jesus told about theprodigal son, 1 do you remember how the

ather acted when the boy returned home? Didhe run up and sni his breath to see i he had

been drinking? Did he comment on how poorlyhe had cared or his clothes? Did he criticizehis straggly hair and dirty ingernails? Did heinquire about the balance le t in his check-ing account? O course not. He hugged theboythe hug o loving acceptance.Dr. Bob Pedrick
