Often experiment with drugs

And hold liberal values on sexuality.

WHY ARE HIPPIES? Hippies came about in the 1960’s

They protested the Vietnam War

Attempted to break from societal norms

Inspired by Buddha, Henry David Thoreau, and Gandhi.

Hippies started in the United States. Mostly in San Francisco, California. Haight-Ashbury was known for many

hippies There were other movements in Europe. Some created communes away from

society. Gathered at psychedelic music festivals.
