You should also have thenecessary training, skills, and tools to performthis installation properly.Improper installation of this kit could causethe reel to function incorrectly, resulting ina dangerous situation that could result ininjury or death.Do not begin the installation of this kit untilyou read and understand the informationcontained in this supplement, as well as theOEM information provided by themanufacturer of the combine/header.

IntroductionThe Flip Reel Conversion Kit is designed towork with HCC tube type reels built since1990, and improves performance byeliminating crop wrapping around the battubes.

Installation involves removing the existing reelend supports and installing the Flip ReelConversion Kit.

Completely read and understand theseinstructions before beginning the installation.In addition you will need to refer to the OEMservice manual for certain disassembly andassembly procedures.

IMPORTANT NOTICEInstallation of the left-hand andright-hand assemblies is based on apoint of view as seen from inside theoperators cab.

Installation

Stop the engine, remove theignition key, and engage theparking brake before leaving thecab.If the header needs to be raised,make sure it is supported withsecure blocking.

To avoid serious injury, make sureany guards or shields removedwhen installing the Flip ReelConversion Kit are replaced once

the installation is complete.

IMPORTANT NOTICESave all hardware and fasteners forreassembly. Replace any worn ordamaged hardware with new.

Before starting the removalprocedure, make sure the reel isadequately supported using anoverhead lifting device or a material

handling device (forklift). Follow all OEMsafety recommendations when removing thereel. Reels can weigh between 500 and 1000pounds and will result in serious injury ordeath if not adequately supported duringremoval.

NOTE: Taking reference photographs of thecombine header and reel before disassembly,can be helpful during kit installation andreassembly.

1. Remove the reel from the header usingOEM instructions. This may include:

• Removing divider points (1)

• Removing electrical connections such asreel speed sensors (2)

• Disconnecting hydraulic hoses (3)

• Removing drive gear or pulley (4)

• Removing stop plates (5).

• Removing linkages from cylinder rodconnections (6)

NOTE: Mark the location of each hydraulichose before disassembly. This will ensure theproper rotation of the reel when the hoses arereinstalled.

(1) Divider Points. (2) Reel Speed Sensor. (3) HydraulicHoses. (4) Drive Gear or Pulley. (5) Stop Plate. (6) Cylinder Rod Connections.

IMPORTANT NOTICEPlug or cap the hydraulic connectionsof the hoses and/or motor to preventcontamination of the hydraulic system.

2. Securely attach a lifting device to the reel.

3. Remove the reel from the header reel arms.

4. Place the reel on support stands capableof holding at least 1000 lbs. each.

Inadequate support stands couldcollapse, causing serious injury ordeath. Always use support standswith the proper weight rating.

5. One at a time, remove the left-hand andright-hand end brackets and end shieldeccentric assemblies. Remove the endbracket(s) from end shield(s). Refer to theOEM service manual for proper proceduresand instructions.

The end shield and bracketassembly are heavy and can causebodily injury, if not removedproperly. Use an overhead lifting

device or two people to remove the endshield.

NOTE: When removing the end shield fromthe end of the reel, be careful not to lose thethrust washer(s) (quantities may vary per reelsize). These thrust washers must be savedand installed with the new flip reel eccentricassembly for proper operation of the reel.

6. The new flip reel eccentric assembliescome pre-assembled. Install a newleft-hand or right-hand assembly on thereel.

7. Install the previously removed end bracketon the installed flip reel eccentric assembly.

IMPORTANT NOTICEWhen installing the flip reel eccentricassemblies, the fixed arm on each endof a double eccentric reel MUST beattached to the same bat tube.

8. Repeat Step 5 through Step 7 to assemblethe opposite end of the reel.

IMPORTANT NOTICEA stop bolt (5) on each flip reel armprevents the tine tubes from rotatingforward. Make sure the stop bolts areon the “leading edge” of the eccentricassembly arms, based on the directionof reel rotation.

NOTE: There may be hardware that is notreused after installation of the new Flip ReelConversion Kit. This hardware is not neededand may be discarded.

9. Install the reel back on the header. Refer tothe OEM service manual for properprocedures and instructions.

Final Assembly1. Install the components removed in Step 1,

including the divider points, if necessary.

2. Set the pitch adjustment to suit cropconditions.

3. Grease the eccentric tube Zerk fitting (6) atboth ends of the reel shaft.

4. Adjust the cutter-bar-to-tine distance, asper manufacturer’s recommendation.

IMPORTANT NOTICEFailure to make proper adjustmentscould result in cutting off the tips of theplastic tine fingers.

5. Check and adjust the reel fore/aft positionas per manufacturer’s recommendation.

IMPORTANT NOTICEFailure to make proper adjustmentscould result in the reel contacting theauger, causing damage.

LIMITED WARRANTYHCC, inc. warrants each new HCC, inc. product to be free from defects in material andworkmanship. This warranty is applicable only for the normal service life expectancy of the productor components, not to exceed 12 consecutive months from the date of delivery of the new HCC, inc.product to the original purchaser.

Genuine HCC, inc. replacement parts and components will be warranted for 90 days from date ofpurchase, or the remainder of the original equipment warranty period, whichever is longer. There isno warranty for tines.

Under no circumstances will it cover any merchandise or components thereof, which, in the opinionof the company, has been subjected to misuse, unauthorized modifications, alteration, an accident,or if repairs have been made with parts other than those obtainable through HCC, inc.

Our obligation under this warranty shall be limited to repairing or replacing, free of charge to theoriginal purchaser, any part that, in our judgment, shall show evidence of such defect, providedfurther that such part shall be returned within thirty (30) days from date of failure to HCC, inc., routedthrough the dealer and distributor from whom the purchase was made, transportation chargesprepaid.

This warranty shall not be interpreted to render HCC, inc. liable for injury or damages of any kind ornature to person or property. This warranty does not extend to the loss of crops, loss because ofdelay in harvesting, or any expense or loss incurred for labor, substitute machinery, rental, or for anyother reason.

HCC, inc. reserves the right to make improvements in design or changes in specifications at anytime, without incurring any obligation to owners of units previously sold.
