You are cordially invited to enjoy a delicious Mardi Gras-inspired luncheon on Wednesday, February 7th at 11:30 am. Joel Bevington will get you all in the mood with selections of smooth jazz. January Outreach – Backpacks for Kids For the past two years First Lutheran and our Pre-School have been providing food for weekend meals for up to 18 children at our neighborhood Syre Elementary School in Richmond Beach.

This has been a wonderful opportunity to serve those in need right here in our own neighborhood. Donations of food are needed all through the school year, and for January your Outreach offerings go to purchasing any items not donated during the week. Ongoing shopping list:

February Outreach - Community Lunch at Central Lutheran Church The Community Lunch on Capitol Hill, at Central Lutheran Church, has been providing meals for mostly homeless and some low income people twice a week for more than 30 years. First Lutheran has been an active participant since the beginning, and February is the month for our annual trek to Capitol Hill to cook and serve lunch on Tuesdays. The dates we will serve are Tuesdays: 2/6, 2/13, 2/20 and 2/27.

Signup to volunteer today. Or if you can’t help in person, we can always use cookies or brownies, and by all means monetary donations.

Your monetary donations during February go to offset the cost of the food we purchase in order to prepare these meals. You can just use the “Outreach” section of your envelope to designate your gift to the Central Lutheran lunch program.

If you have questions or would like more information about the lunch program, call Jim Borrow at 206-546-3716.

4 x 4 Groups Sign Up Back by popular demand, we are starting 4 x 4 groups in February. The concept is simple, four families or households will be matched together and each household will take turns hosting the other families for a potluck-style dinner. Dinners are usually scheduled once a month. Divorced or Single? You are equally as welcome to join in and will count as one household. This is a great way for members of our church to get to know each other, and begin to form friendships that foster strong communities and spiritual growth. Matching plates not necessary!

Volunteer Opportunity - Tutoring Katie Lightner, Ronald Commons’ Case Manager, continues to look for Homework Club volunteers. Volunteers are needed Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, 4pm to 5pm, to work with elementary school children who bring their homework to the Ronald Commons Community Room. Please let Katie ([email protected]) or Jennifer Marquette ([email protected]) know if you are interested in helping.

Praying in Color & Praying with the Body On Saturday, February 24th, 2:30 - 4:00 pm, expand your view of prayer and involve the left side of your brain and your entire body in this hands-on experience. Explore postures of prayer and use color and doodling to capture your prayers. This will change your prayer life! Taught by YogaExercise instructor Michelle Tornetta.

Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Suggested $10 donation for supplies RSVP to Michelle Tornetta at [email protected] or 425-210-7654

Lent Study - It is Well with My Soul Join or lead a small group for Lent. Each year during Lent we take this time to focus on God and his work in our lives. This year we will look at Health and how to be spiritually healthy when it comes to many aspects of our lives. This study was developed by Pastor John, Terry Baird, and Cathy Thomas. Please watch for opportunities to sign up or contact Terry Baird for more information. Here is a brief overview of the study and suggested weeks for each study:
