Picking them strategically is therefore important, making sure that you have reciprocal players in other positions to swap them with. THE MAGNETS HAVE ARRIVED

As soon as James Magner was drafted I had a suspicion that he would be the best rookie we have seen since Michael Barlow. I have since been duly justified. “The Magnet” as he is referred to definitely lives up to his nickname, amassing a combined 209 DT points – the second-most of any debutant in his first two games behind that man Barlow. He’s now become Melbourne’s No.1 midfielder, leading the club for disposals, kicks and handballs and ranking equal-second for tackles.

Thompson ranks second in the league for disposals after the first two rounds, as he did at the end of last season. With Adelaide’s attractive draw, he was always going to be one of the safest bets in the midfield.

SCOTT THOMPSON RORY SLOANE

With scores of 125 and 105 DT points from his first two games, his price will rise considerably after this round. A good choice at his price.

ADELAIDE

FantasyFreako

@FantasyFreako - The Crows are the only side that is yet to taste defeat this year. They face their greatest test this week against the Hawks, a team they’ve lost three of the past four games against.

BRISBANE LIONS

It looks like Golby will be used in a lock down role in defence this year, which won’t do much for his scoring. As a mid-pricer, you can either trade him down to a rookie, or alternatively if you have the cash just bring in a premium.

MITCH GOLBY JARED POLEC

The punt on Polec hasn’t paid off. Trading him out for a rookie is the best option here.

Brisbane Lions AFL Dream Team Points

CARLTON

You know what you get with Murphy each week, which is his greatest appeal. With scores of 116 and 115 DT points from his first two games, his consistency is remarkable.

MARC MURPHY KANE LUCAS

Lucas definitely has to go. He scored a sub affected 39 DT points in Round 1 and could only manage 62 points last week despite playing a full game.

Yagmoor was always going to be poor pick, despite playing in the open-ing round of the year. His chances will be limited, so trade him out for another rookie that is actually playing.

PETER YAGMOOR HEATH SHAW

Although there are plenty of coaches that will pull the trigger and dump Shaw this week, I’ll stick with him despite his expected price drop. He’s averaged 85 DT points per match between 2006-11 and is a proven scorer.

Milera has been the bolter at the Saints this season, returning scores of 74 and 85 DT points. He looks to have won the battle with Ahmed Saad for that small forward role, so snap him up this week before his price jumps.

TERRY MILERA LENNY HAYES

Hayes is back in town! There were some doubts about how he would fare after his lengthy injury layoff, but he’s dispelled that with scores of 91 and 89 DT points. He will only get better.

Cunningham’s chances of regular football will be limited this season. The Swans have tremendous depth, so I cannot see him fulfilling his role as a cash cow. Trade him out immediately.

HARRY CUNNINGHAM LUKE PARKER

Parker is just another example of why the mid-pricer is a riskier option from a fantasy perspective. Trade him out for a basement price rookie this week.

With a game against the Giants this week, Cox could score anything. He racked up 145 DT points against new comers Gold Coast in his only game against the newcomers last season.

DEAN COx ANDREW EMBLEY

If you’re one of the very few coaches that has Embley, then he has to be traded out. He’s suffered another shoulder injury and is expected to spend up to 12 weeks on the sidelines.

Dickson has had very little impact in the first two rounds, having a shocker in the season opener and returning a sub affected score last week. Terry Milera looks to be the perfect replacement.
