Hi and welcome to the eighth edition of the Fantasy Freakos rave for 2012. Scores across the board remained high last round, despite Kevin Sheedy deciding to leave outJames McDonald and a host of youngsters with popular players Tomas Bugg, Adam Kennedy, Dylan Shiel and Devon Smith all given a spell. They should all return for thisweeks home game against Essendon. Injuries will once again be a major talking point, with gun midfielders Dane Swan and Marc Murphy both succumbing to ailments. Illexplore their predicaments in my weekly focus.

Two of the most durable midfielders in the AFL went down last round, with bothDane Swan and Marc Murphy now expected to miss games through injury. Swanhas had an impeccable record, playing in 137 of the past 140 H&A matches, whileMurphy himself has only missed one match since 2007 playing 117 of a possible118 games. The prognosis is mixed on both fronts, with Swan expected to miss twogames with his hamstring strain, which will hopefully see him face Melbourne inRound 11. However, if the club takes a conservative approach, we may not see himuntil Round 13, as the Magpies have a bye in Round 12.

Murphy on the other hand has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with his shoulderinjury, which would see him return in Round 18, or possibly even later dependingon how his rehabilitation progresses. This is a massive blow, as almost 54,000coaches currently have him in their side.

Looking ahead, Murphy definitely has to go, but Swan on the other hand is a

different story. If youre travelling well and have trades in the bank, then you couldtrade him because even if he does return in two weeks he will miss Round 12 withthe bye. If youre low on trades and arent in a luxurious position, then you may noother choice than to hold on. Personally, Im keeping him, as I did with Gary Ablett.Trades are far too precious to be wasting on replacing premiums for a couple ofweeks.

Regardless of whether youre replacing Murphy or Swan or even upgrading someoneelse, I have included the best scoring midfielders since Round 5 to the right.

MIDFIELDER MAYHEM

ON THE RISE

The recent dominance of Patrick Dangerfield and Steele Sidebottom prompted meto do a little research. My findings were as I expected, with both Dangerfield and

Sidebottom amongst the top 10 most improved players for disposals in the AFLcompared to 2011. Dangerfield has always been knocked for his ball-winning ability,or lack of, but this year hes proved his critics wrong averaging 10 more disposalsper match compared to last season. Prior to this season, he had reached the 20disposal mark in 10 of his 64 matches and topped 30 only once. This year hesalready reached the 20 mark in seven of his eight games and cracked 30 three times.

Steele Sidebottom is another player that has increased his output with more midfieldtime, finishing with 30 plus disposals in each of his past two games includinga career-high 38 last round against the Cats. Prior to this season, he had neverexceeded the 30 mark in any of his 67 matches.

On the right are the most improved players in the league from a disposal perspective,with Port Adelaides John McCar thy leading the way, averaging 10.4 more disposalsper match compared to last season (minimum five games played in both seasons).
