3+2 DUAL-DEGREE ENGINEERING AGREEMENT FOR ESU AND WICHITA

STATE UNIVERSITY

Great news for students who are interested in earning an engineering degree!

Dr. Shonrock, president of Emporia State University and

Dr. John Bardo, president of Wichita State University, signed a

3+2 dual-degree engineering agreement to benefit students

of both institutions on October 15, 2013.

Under the agreement, students who choose the “3+2”

program will spend three years taking courses at Emporia

State University before transferring to Wichita State for two

more years of study in the College of Engineering. At the end,

students will have earned a bachelor of science degree in

mathematics or physics from Emporia State and a bachelor

of science degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, industrial/

manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering technology

(renewable energy option) from Wichita State.

Additionally, the plan supports reverse transfer for ESU, which allows courses

taken at Wichita State in the final two years to be counted toward the

bachelor’s degree from Emporia State.

GRADUATION TIPS

Graduation is around the corner! ESU's Winter Commencements are scheduled for

December 14, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. (undergraduate students) and at 2:00 p.m. (graduate

students).

If you are planning to

graduate this

December, and filled out

the Intent to Graduate

Form online, you should

have received the

Graduation packet info

via your ESU email

account at the end of

October. However, the

following are some tips

for you to do before

commencement:

Diploma & Cover fee — A $20 fee must be paid to the ESU Cashier's Office, Plumb Hall,

Room 104. It covers the cost of your diploma and cover. Your diploma will not be mailed

to you until the fee has been paid.

Change of name — If your name will change prior to the December 2013 graduation

and you wish to have your new name appear in the commencement program, you must

report your name change to the Degree Analysis Office (Plumb Hall, Room 108H, 620-341-

5150, or e-mail) by November 8, 2013.

Academic Apparel —- You can call and order your cap and gown from the ESU

Memorial Union Bookstore. You must wear graduation apparel to

participate in the commencement exercise. The bookstore will also

have graduation apparel available at White Auditorium

on the day of graduation. ESU Bookstore

DISTANCE EDUCATION PROFILE For this month’s newsletter, we had the pleasure of interviewing one of our distance students Bo Frank!

Graduate student of

Health, Physical

Education and

Recreation program

Bo Frank

Bo Frank is a distance student working on a graduate degree

in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with certificates

in Pedagogy and Coaching. Bo is from Honolulu Hawaii, and

is working as a Physical Education teacher at Rodford High

school in Honolulu. He serves as the head cheer coach of the

National Champion Radford Ram Cheer team. For the third

time in his career, Bo was awarded the Hawaii State Coach of

the Year after leading his team to the 8th consecutive Hawaii

State Championship and 4th consecutive NCA national

Championship!

Bo has enjoyed ESU’s online HPER program; “I haven’t been

able to pursue a masters’ degree because I have a family

and coach a year round sport,” he stated. “Studying in ESU’s

distance program has been such an amazing opportunity for

me, all the classes are wonderful and useful in my job,

especially readings from Leadership in HPER.”

After graduation, Bo plans to pursue his career as a coach at

the college level. Aside from studying, his favorite thing to do

is to spend time with family, support his two sons Saxoni and

Sakoda in gymnastics and soccer, and play volleyball.

“Stay motivated, and strive for excellence!”

Bo’s advice for other distance students:
