EC first used two first-period goals to down the Panthers, 4-1, but fell victim to three unanswered third-period Plattsburgh goals in their 4-2 defeat to the Cardinals. BEST START SINCE 2002-03 With Elmira’s 4-1 victory over then-No. 5 Middlebury College, EC moved to 7-0-0 in 2014-15. The seven straight wins to start the season matched the best start to a season since 2002-03. FOURTH TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY For the fourth time in Elmira College women’s ice hockey history, EC has opened a season with seven wins in their first eight games. The previous three seasons that this has occurred were 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2012-13, all of which were national championship seasons for the Purple and Gold. BACK-TO-BACK FOR JO-JO Last season’s leading rookie scorer, Johanna Eidensten ’17, had been unable to get in the scoring column through the season’s first six games, but that changed over the weekend as she recorded four points on two goals and two assists at the Cardinal-Panther Classic. She tal- lied two assists, including one on the game-winning goal, against Mid- dlebury on Saturday for her first two points of the season, then found the back of the net twice against Plattsburgh State, EC’s only two goals of the game. A Weekend SplitElmira split a pair of games at this past weekend’s Cardinal-Panther Classic, first defeating No. 5 Middlebury College on Saturday before falling to No. 1 Plattsburgh State on Sunday in the Classic Champion-ship game. EC first used two first-period goals to down the Panthers, 4-1, but fell victim to three unanswered third-period Plattsburgh goals in their 4-2 defeat to the Cardinals.

deFenSive duoBrooke Wilgosh ’15 and Phoebe Piku ’16 have spearheaded Elmira’s at-tack from the blue line this season, leading EC’s defenders, and tying for third in overall scoring, with nine points apiece. Additionally, the duo ties for third nationally in points per game from defensemen, averaging 1.12 points per game.

ShoWing depthThe nation’s top scorers, Ashley Ryan ’15 and Ashton Hogan ’15, were shutout last weekend as it was Elmira’s other talented skaters who carried the load offensively. EC scored six goals at the Cardinal-Panther Classic, which were scored by five different players. Overall, eight players recorded points on the weekend.

cAreer FirStSA pair of EC newcomers recorded career firsts in Elmira’s 4-1 win over Middlebury College last Saturday. First, Erin Kishoni ’18 recorded her first career assist on Elmira’s first goal of the game. Then, Sarah Hughson ’18 helped make it a 3-0 game with her first career assist. Hughson also added an assist against Plattsburgh State the following day to round out her weekend.

ec on the poWer plAyElmira has gone on the power play 45 times through the season’s first eight games and has converted those opportunities into goals at one of the best rates in the country. The Soaring Eagles have scored 14 power-play goals, which equates to an efficiency rating of 31.1 percent. EC leads the nation in power-play goals scored and ranks fourth in power-play per-centage.

tied At the topLeading Elmira’s top-5 ranked power-play unit are Ashton Hogan ’15 and Cassidy Delainey ’15 who have scored four power-play goals apiece. Ho-gan and Delainey are tied for the national lead in power-play goals scored with former EC defenseman, Taylor Steadman.

Still leAding the nAtionThe Soaring Eagles, despite scoring only six goals in two games at the Cardinal-Panther Classic, continue to lead the nation in scoring average. EC has scored 44 goals in eight games, which equates to a 5.50 goals per game average, 0.50 goals per game better than Wisconsin-River Falls.

A look At the BeArSSUNY Potsdam enters this weekend of play on a three-game losing streak, all of which have come on the road against ECAC West Conference op-ponents. The Bears are led offensively by the 2013-14 ECAC West and US-CHO Rookie of the Year Jordan Ott, who has recorded seven points on four goals and three assists.

FAmiliAr FAceFor the second consecutive homestand, EC’s opposition will feature an Elmira alum on the team bench. Jay Green’80 is in his eighth season as the head coach of the SUNY Potsdam Bears, the only coach in SUNY Potsdam women’s ice hockey history. Green was a four-year member of the men’s ice hockey team and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals while at Elmira.
