Game NotesBack On Track: The Soaring Eagles snapped a three-game skid on January 6th when the EC women defeated Alfred University, 69-62. Alex Balara ’15 led the Purple and Gold with 23 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a block in the win, while Danielle Cleary ’18 was right behind Balara with 17 points, four rebounds, and an assist.

Game-Winning Run: With 3:19 left in regulation time against Alfred, the Purple and Gold were tied at 61-61. The Soaring Eagles then went on an 8-1 run to seal the fate of the game and win, 69-62.

Balara’s Double-Digit Streak: Alex Balara ’15 extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games after dropping 23 points against Alfred University. She has now averaged 17.7 points per contest since her return to the court this season.

Geisler Setting Up The Plays: Kelsey Geisler ’15 dished out a career-high seven assists against Alfred University and now ranks second in the Empire 8 Conference in assists per game with 3.8, just 0.3 behind conference leader McK-aylee Croll ’18 of Alfred University. She also ranks tied for third in the Empire 8 Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with a ratio of 1.1.

Pochkar’s Solid Performance: Karli Pochkar ’16 scored five points, pulled down six rebounds, and dished out five assists against Alfred. She is averaging 6.9 rebounds per game, rank-ing her 10th in the Empire 8 Conference.

Looking Ahead: Elmira will compete next at home tomor-row, January 10th when the EC women host Empire 8 Con-ference foe Houghton College at 2:00 p.m.

Game NotesThe Pioneers So Far: The Pioneers of Utica College enter today’s contest with a 4-8 record and a 0-3 mark inside the Empire 8 Conference. The Pioneers are also on a five-game losing streak with their most recent loses coming against conference foes St. John Fisher College, Ithaca College, and Stevens Institute of Technology.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers most recently fell to Stevens Institute of Technology, 55-52. Utica rallied in the second half and took a lead of six points with 8:14 left in the game, however, the Ducks would use a 15-4 run to earn the vic-tory.

E8 Rookie of the Week: Ashley Mayo ’18 was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for her efforts last week. In three games she averaged 10.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per contest. Her best performance of the week was in the 80-76 double-overtime loss against Ithaca College when she scored a career-best 15 points, recorded a team-high three steals, and also grabbed six rebounds.

Scouting Utica: The Pioneers offense is spearheaded by Mary Miceli ’16 and Samantha Stayer ’15 who average 13.0 and 10.7 points per contest, respectively. Bridget Greenwald ’15 leads the team in assists, rebounds, and steals per game at 2.3, 10.1, and 2.2, respectively.

Series History: Utica holds the advantage in the recent se-ries history with a 16-10 record over the Soaring Eagles since the 2001-02 season.EC, however, have won the last three matchups over the Pioneers.
