Principal’s Message
Kia ora, Kia orana, Namaste, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Ni hao ma, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Asalam alikum!
Burglaries
Our school was targeted once again by burglars
during last weekend; the same two offices had
windows smashed, cupboard and drawer locks broken
and a lot of mess created. The police continue to
follow up leads. Please contact me as soon as possible
if you have information that could be useful. We
currently have exterior alarm beams being installed.
More information will be in the next newsletter.
ICAS 2012 Computer Competition
The names of students achieving highly in this
competition were publicised in our previous
newsletter; it was lovely to see so many family
members at assembly where certificates were
presented. Below are the Edendale statistics for the
competition.
Skill Areas
*General Skills *Word Processing
*Graphics/Multimedia *Internet/Email
*Spreadsheet/Databases
Our top score matched the NZ top score in these four areas; in the other area our top score was one point below the top NZ score. Our top scorer, Alexander was
one point short of a perfect score and Maddison was one point away from a High Distinction! Congratulations to you both; an outstanding result!
ICAS 2012 Science Competition Forty-two students participated in the Science Competition and were awarded 4 Distinction, 5 Credit
and 33 Participation certificates. Congratulations to all students who entered and special congratulations to our Distinction and Credit certificate winners: Distinction:
Alexander—Room 24 Year Five, Bryan—Room 24, Yi Chao—Room 27 and Bhavya—Room 25, all Year Six students.
Credit: Ryan—Room 2 Year 4, Joshua—Room 24 Year 5, Zoe—Room 25 and Matthew—Room 24 both Year Six students.
Skill Areas
*Observing/Measuring *Interpreting
*Predicting/Concluding *Investigating
*Reasoning/Problem-solving
Our highest score was one point below that of the NZ
top score in each of these areas for Year Four.
In Year Five our top score met that for NZ in the *areas.
Our Year Six highest scores matched the NZ top score in
Interpreting, Predicting/Concluding and Investigating.
Boys’ Education Evening
We hope to see as many of our families who have
sons at our evening next Tuesday (in the staffroom)
where Zane Wilson will talk about educating boys and
share useful research-based ideas about activities for
boys that you could use at home. The meeting will
start at 6pm and run through until 6:45pm. Please
note this meeting is not about requests for 2013; a
further meeting for that will be held in Term Four.
Shorwell St Parking
If you currently drop off your child/children in the
KINZ car park please note the following. A number of
parents and duty teachers have expressed their
annoyance at being verbally abused by a few parents
who insist on using unsafe driving and parking
practices in this area. The police will begin random
checks shortly and teachers are recording cars and
registration plates. I will be discussing thoughts
around publication of offenders‘ number plates in the
newsletter with the BOT shortly. Please do not put
our students at risk!

Garden To Table
In Garden to Table classes we have been cooking up more winter vegetable soup, but with spring just around the corner we have started to look
towards our summer harvest. We have been preparing our garden beds with plenty of compost and sheep manure and ordering seeds ready for the summer harvest to begin.
During class time we have focused on pollination and learning about the different insects that pollinate. We
have started sowing seeds for the pollinators garden to lure more beneficial pollinators into Edendale's
grounds. Did you know that one in every three bites of food we eat is possibly made by a pollinator and 80% of all flowering plants rely on a pollinator for survival!
In the kitchen we have made the most of our winter
harvest and cooked up a storm with bubble and squeak on the menu. Potatoes, leeks, spring onions, carrots, Italian parsley and thyme served with the green tomato chutney that we made in summer, all came from our garden. The Endeavour team kitchen skills are increasing, well done!
A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who help make our classes a fun learning experience for the Endeavour students. We still have volunteer
vacancies for Wednesday gardening classes and Thursday kitchen classes (choose either 12:00—
1.00pm in the Garden, or 12:00 - 2:50pm in the kitchen.
Please email [email protected] if you have any
questions.
