Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, May 4: The irate residents of Ban near Dayala Chak today staged a demonstration and blocked Dayalachak -Ramkote road for one hour. The protestors were demand- ing immediate replacement of transformer which has been damaged over a four days in the area and people were facing many hardships in this hot sea- son. Later the civil and police authorities visited the area and pursued the people to lift the blockade. They assured them that the transformer will be installed by this evening. On their assurance the people dispersed and later in the evening the transformer was installed. Meanwhile, the residents of border village Bhambra - Harya Chak of Raj Bagh area today staged a protest demonstration in front of DC Office Kathua for the failure of authorities to renovate the border road in the area which is in dilapidated condition for last 10 years. The protestors alleged that despite repeated pleas the authori- ties have failed to take the con- struction of road in hand till date. Later the DC assured the pro- testors that the tenders will be called soon for construction of the road. Nearly 330 kanals of this Govt land had been demarcated for Sports Stadium near the town some time back. Some people in connivance with the local Revenue staff managed to get the said land under Khasra No. 689 alloted in their own name. Even they managed fraudulent Girdawaris of the land. SDM Sher Singh when came to know about the matter during eviction operation recently, wrote the matter to DC in details. The DC k sought the factual report from the SDM and after being convinced canceled the allotment. He also directed the SDM and SDPO to get the land cleared. The DC when contacted said that Revenue officials responsi- ble for the act have been identi- fied and legal action will be taken against them shortly.
