Reduce all MPX Series basecoats 1:1 with Matrix MR-0800 seriesreducer.

Note: MX-57 Basecoat Activator is highly recommended for best performance.

Note: MX-57 Basecoat activator is recommended for use whenever elevated film builds such as thoseresulting from applying multi stage finishes. See the MX-57 Technical Data Sheet for additionalinformation.

Note: Using temperature correct reducers is critical in the application of paint finishes and failure touse the correct temperature reducer can result in a myriad of problems associated with coatings dryingtoo fast or drying too slow.

STAGE ONE BASECOAT APPLICATIONMPX OR MPB BASECOAT - See MPX Tech Sheet for completeinstructionsAfter reducing basecoat, strain the paint into the paint gun.Apply 2-3 coats or until hiding is achieved using 35-45 psi at the gun(conventional) or 8-10 psi at the aircap (HVLP). Maintain a distanceof 6-8 inches from the panel with a 90° fan angle to the surface youare painting. Overlap each successive pass by 50%-75% to ensureeven coverage. Allow a 10-15 minute flash time in between coats, allowing the final coat to dry 15-30 minutes prior to topcoatapplication. Do not allow the basecoat to dry in excess of 24 hoursor the basecoat must be lightly sanded and additional basecoatsmust be applied. Apply medium wet coats for best results.

STAGE TWO MIDCOAT APPLICATIONMPX-K OR MPX-P BASECOAT CONCENTRATEAfter adequate flash time for the initial basecoat, apply the secondstage basecoat with the same basecoat application instructions perstage one instructions. CREATING A “LET DOWN” PANEL IS ALWAYSRECOMMENDED TO ENSURE ACCEPTABLE OR DESIRED RESULTSARE OBTAINED.

Note: The second stage may be very translucent and should be test sprayed to determine the numberof coats required to achieve the desired color.

MPX-K & MPX-P Basecoat Concentrates containing Candy FX Dyesmay have limited light fastness and should only be used on surfacesthat have minimal exposure to sunlight.

STAGE THREE CLEARCOAT APPLICATIONAll Matrix clearcoats may be used over MPX-K & MPX-P BasecoatConcentrates per application instructions.

TEST SPRAY OUT REQUIREDIMPORTANT! You must test spray a panel before painting your actual project. This is necessary due to all the variables in the custom painting process. Bytest spraying you will see your end result before you start painting yourproject. You can practice on a panel and change your application techniquesif necessary so your final paint job looks just like you want it to.

ARTWORK & INTERCOAT CLEARDO NOT TAPE DIRECTLY ONTO THE MIDCOAT WHENEVERPOSSIBLE! If artwork is planned, apply 1 or 2 medium coats ofMPB-500 or Matrix clearcoat to protect the underlying paint layerfrom mishaps such as tape marks, chemical spills or etc that maydamage layers applied at a prior date. In addition, the protectiveclearcoat is easier to sand imperfections out of and will not requireto be re-candied after sanding. See tech sheet for moreinformation on MPB-500 or Matrix clearcoat.
