Basic information about the answerers of my survey

This page is showing the basic information about the people that has answered my survey so we can see if the age and gender of each of the people affect there tastes in music and magazines. The 15-21 age group is who most likely my magazine will be aimed at so it is important that I analyse the data closely to see what my target age group like the most. Also a larger proportion of the people that answered my were male so my leader profile should be based on teenage males.

What is your favourite genre of music? There is a wide range of favoured genres

of music within my sample of people. The most popular genre is pop with just under a 3rd of the vote. Rap/hip hop got the second highest vote with 21%.The wide range of genres from the questionaries' means that to attract a wide range of readers I should focus on more than one genre. The answers from the other section included is jazz , classical and alternative.

What is your favourite music magazine currently available in the UK?

There is no clear favourite music magazine from my questionnaire as there is an even amount of preferred magazines as Q magazine, NME and Kerrang. But over half of all the people I have interviewed said that they don’t read magazines. This could mean that there is a gap in the market so that the current range of magazines doesn’t appeal to them. Or there can be over reasons such as they get information and/or entertainment from television or the internet I need to try and attract readers away from other media sources to reading my music magazine instead.

How much do you spend on music products a month? This question shows how the people who answered my

question on a whole did not spend very much on musically products monthly with around 60% of the answers of my survey spending below £2 This shows that my potential target market are not prepared to pay a high amount for music products ,this was epsically seen in magazine where just under 70% of my answers spend under £2 on music magazines. This means that I will have to keep the price of my magazine low so people can afford it and will buy it.Another statistic from this question is that the music product that the most people spend the highest amount of money on is gigs and festivals this means there is a possibility I could include articles and advertisments on upcoming and recent gigs in my magazine that would appeal to my target market.

What content inside a magazine is most important to you? I asked this question to see what sort of

content people prefer to read about. The most important content to the

people who answered my survey is tied between information about gigs and festivals on %36 and reviews of gigs and albums. This means these will be the feature articles of my magazine to attract potential readers. Although I will still include the other articles in to keep Varity and to attract a wide range of people.

How often do you buy music magazines? I asked this question to see how many people

bought magazines regularly and what would work better out of realising magazines weekly or monthly.

Half of all the people who answered my questionnaire said they never buy music magazines with the other 50% either buying a music magazine occasionally or rarely and no one bought a music magazine regularly. This could be due to a range of reasons as I have mentioned before such as people not having the time or problems that I can design my magazine to attract people that don’t currently buy magazines regular such as marketing them at a low price or making a magazine that appeals to the people that don’t buy music magazine.

What attracts you to buy a magazine?

I asked this question to see what most influences people when they are buying or looking at magazines in the shop.

The 2 most influential aspects of what attracts people to buy a music magazine is the design of the front colour so the placement of information and colours used and the cover star of the magazine. This shows that readers value the front cover design and some my buy the magazine because there favourite artist is on it. These answers beat the name/ brand of the magazine which suggests building up a brand does not have importance when it comes to choosing an music magazine.

What way would you prefer to read a magazine? The people who answered my survey

71% of the vote said they would like to read their magazine with a physical printed edition oppose to a digital copy that can be viewed on a phone or tablet. The conclusion of this question is that I should design my magazine for physical editions to be printed and sold at newsstands and shops such as WHSmith.

How many genres would you like to read about in one magazine? I asked this question to find out how many

genres people would like to read about within a magazine.

The most preferred option with 78% of the answers was a small amount of similar genres through the magazine for example a magazine covering the rock, heavy metal and punk genres because they are all very similar. This was preferred to a large Varity of different genre and one single genre. So for my magazine I will try to focus it on a small range of different genres.

Summary Over the course of my survey I have learnt many characteristics that my

magazine should have. To start with I found out that I will be aiming my magazine at teenagers mostly male orientated. I also found out that there is a large range of musical genres that my target market is interested in so I shouldn’t focus my magazine on one single genres more of a small range of similar genres. Additionally I found out that a large proportion of the people that answered my questionnaire did not read magazines and that I would have to come up with strategies that would attract that proportion to read my magazine. Moreover I found out that the cover of a magazine is very important and that the design needs to be thought out carefully and a popular cover star needs to be used in order to attract the most readers.
