ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE ELCShould you meet the academic admissions criteria, but do not meet the English languageprociency requirements, the ELC can help. The University o Manitoba can accept youon the condition that you successully complete Level 5 o the Intensive AcademicEnglish Program (IAEP) at the English Language Centre. Depending on your initialplacement level, the IAEP can take as little as one semester to complete. The IAEP prepares
you or university studies by providing you with the language skills necessary to succeedacademically. You will learn how to write research papers, learn new vocabulary, anddeliver academic presentations, among many other skills. We accept students threetimes per year, allowing you the exibility to achieve your goals and ensure you gainthe condence you need to succeed at university.
What we oer:
CONDITIONAL ADMISSIONEnglish Language Center students have the option o conditional admission,which means that they will be admitted to the University o Manitoba uponsuccessul completion o the IAEP program.
EXCELLENT PREPARATORY CLASSES LED BY EXPERIENCED AND QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORSEnglish Language Centre instructors have advanced degrees and have extensiveexperience teaching English or Academic Purposes (EAP).
SMALLER CLASS SIZESThe average class size is 12 students per class, meaning each student receivesindividualized instruction.
MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO TRANSITION TO UNIVERSITY FASTERMost programs oer students a chance to move up levels within the IAEP bywriting placement tests. At the ELC, students who achieve an 80 percent averageor more by the mid-term exam may also skip to the next highest level aterthe mid-term exam.
DEDICATED ELC STUDENT ADVISOROur Student Advisor helps students with issues related to admissions,
making the transition to university easier.COMPREHENSIVE STUDENT LIFE PROGRAMSocial, cultural, and sports events, led by University o Manitoba students,can connect you to university acilities and Canadian students.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTSThe Faculty o Graduate Studies has a minimum academic standard or admission.Individual departments may have higher requirements and additional criteria.
The minimum eligibility requirements to our Masters programs are graduates witha our-year Bachelors Degree or equivalent rom a recognized college or university,and a Grade Point Average (GPA) o 3.0 (on a scale o 4.5) in the last two ull years(or last 60 credit hours) o undergraduate study.
Students with a general (three-year) Bachelors Degree may be admitted to a qualiyingyear o study called Pre-Masters. The standard minimum eligibility requirements still
apply. Not all programs oer this option.
Admission to Ph.D. programs are normally based on completion of a U of M Masters degree.

SCHOLARSHIPSEach year, close to $475,000 is allocated to international studentsin the orm o scholarships and bursaries.2 International high schoolstudents are automatically eligible or entrance scholarships i youapply beore May 1 or the all term and have the required senior yearaverage. Students enrolled in an 80% course load during the all andwinter terms, who continue to do well in their studies (min 3.5 GPA)are also assessed or uture scholarships (valued between $500-$750).

D:Review the English language prociency requirements
English is the language o instruction and communication at the University
o Manitoba. Accordingly, an applicant whose primary language is not English,
or whose previous education has been conducted in another language, must
demonstrate a command o English sufcient to meet the demands o classroom
instruction, written assignments and participation in tutorials and discussions.
English language prociency can be demonstrated in a variety o manners:Write a test
TOEFL IBT: 86 overall band score with a minimum o 20 in each component
required or admission
IELTS: 6.5 overall band score required or admission

I your documents are in a language other than English, please attach an ofcial
translation to the original documents (notarized copies are acceptable). You may
