Summer Fun

GENERAL INFORMATION1. Parents and caregivers are allowed to watch from the pool deck area.2. No make-ups for missed lessons.3. Classes cancelled by the park department, will be made up on Fridays. 4. Towels are not provided.

CLASS OFFERINGSWeekday Classes: Monday-Thursday for two weeks or Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday classes for four weeks. WeekendClasses: Saturday morning lessons are also offered for eight weeks. Make-ups will be announced.

SWIM COURSE DESCRIPTIONSInfant & Parent (30 min.) Ages 9-18 months - This class allows you and your infant to become comfortable with this new and excitingaquatic environment. Adults do not need to know how to swim. Parent & Toddler (30 min.) Ages 18 months - 3 years - Children continue their introduction to water when they are developmentallyready. This class is designed to help children become comfortable in the water with a parent nearby and to encourage exploration ontheir own. Here children will learn elementary water skills such as proper water entry, front and back float with assistance, kicking on thewall, beginning stroke movements, and water safety skills. Adults do not need to know how to swim. Level I - Preschoolers (30 min.) Ages 3 years and older - This is the first class where children will begin to get comfortable in the waterby themselves. Students will explore the shallow area and play games that will help them become comfortable with swimming. They willcontinue learning beginning swimming skills such as floating, kicking along the wall, putting their face in the water, beginning strokemovements, and pool rules and safety skills. Level II - Beginner (45 min.) Ages 3 years and older - This class will focus on building upon the basics of swimming. Students shouldbe comfortable alone in the water and should be able to demonstrate skills such as floating, kicking, and putting their face in the water.This class will make use of kickboards and noodles and students will begin to learn freestyle and backstroke. Level III - Intermediate (45 min.) Ages 5 years and older - At this level, students continue their development of freestyle, backstroke,and water safety skills. They will also learn the elementary backstroke, holding their breath under water, retrieving objects from the bot-tom of the pool, and swimming with a water safety belt in water that is over their head. Level IV - Intermediate (45 min.) Ages 5 years and older - Students in this class should be familiar with the basics of freestyle, back-stroke and elementary backstroke. New skills covered in this class are advanced stroke work, breast stroke, beginning butterfly, swim-ming comfortably in the deep end, diving and jumping into deep water, and making use of swimming equipment such as kickboards andfins. Level V - Advanced (45 min.) Ages 5 years and older - Students should already know all strokes for this class and be very comfortablein the deep end. This class is designed for the perfection of all strokes and a development of individual endurance. Students are also in-troduced to flip turns and water entries. There will be continued work on breast stroke, butterfly, swimming continuous laps and diving. Water Aerobics (45 min.) Ages 18 years and older - This class consists of aerobic routines, stretching and toning performed in chestdeep water. Not only is this class fun and much less likely to cause injury, but the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water makes aneven better workout for both beginners and experienced participants. No swimming skills necessary. Special Recreation Swimming (45 min.) All Ages - This one-week class, June 29 - July 2 is available for those with special needs.Teacher to Student Ratio 1:1. Competitive Swimming - Calling all competitive swimmers! Take these private lessons from some of the area’s top competitive swim-mers currently swimming for Division 1 NCAA swim programs. If you want an edge over the competition, these lessons are right for you! Preschool Language CampDoes your preschooler have mild-moderate receptive andexpressive language delay or an IEP? If so, Kim Power, M.S.CCC-SLP, licensed and practicing speech-language pathologistand her staff from Kid Power Therapy, Inc. can help. In this camp,activities will revolve around daily camp/summer themes and willtarget language skills in preschoolers. In addition, enrichment ac-tivities will target the areas of expressive language such as ex-panding vocabulary, combining words for communication, usingwords for various reasons, initiating and responding to greetings.Activities will include music and art, and combine grossmotor/movement, fine motor and sensory activities in order to fa-cilitate increased language skills. Each day a 'syllabus' of activi-ties will be provided to families as well as at home enrichmentactivities. Munster Bike PathMunster is proud to offer eleven miles of continuous bikepath. The path connects communities along the Indianaand Illinois state line, linking residential neighborhoods, in-dustrial and office parks, shopping areas, forest preserves,and greenways. The areas designated as bike paths maybe used for biking, roller skating, rollerblading, walking, jog-ging, and other personal recreational activities.

Park OrdinancesListed below are the Town of Munster Ordinances whichshould be observed by all park visitors to keep our parksbeautiful and safe.- All parks are open 6:00 am to dusk.- Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are prohibited

in all parks.- Dogs must be on a leash and owners are responsible for

cleaning up after their pets.- Unauthorized use of the dog park at Centennial Park will

result in a $500 fine to all parties liable.- No go-karts, mopeds, or any other motor driven vehicles

shall be operated in any of the parks.- No golfing, except with a wiffle ball, is allowed in any of

the parks.- Camping is not allowed in any of the parks.- Open burning and fireworks are not allowed in any of the

parks.- No skateboards or roller blades are allowed on the ten-

nis courts.- Persons displaying permits have priority usage of shel-

ter, fields and courts.- The moving or relocating of soccer goals in the parks is

not permitted without prior approval.- All groups of 25 or more must obtain a contract/permit to

use the park shelters.

Dog ParkLocated in beautiful Cen-tennial Park, on the eastside of the park, just southof the gardens, this 3-acredog park is the perfectplace for your family andfurry friends. The dog parkis a member only park andoffers dog-size drinkingfountains, a dog play-ground, fenced in security,dog doo doo bags and ahilltop view that overlooks the entire park and golf course. Users pay an annual fee to offset the care and maintenance ofthe dog park. All dogs must be licensed and proof of immu-nization must be submitted before a pass is issued. There is atwo-dog limit use of this facility. A lanyard and identificationcard will be issued and must be worn at all times when usingthe dog park.

PhotographsYou may take photographs at any park as long as the wedding party is notobstructing any other events, activities or contracted rentals. If you would liketo reserve a specific area at a specific time, you can do so at the additionalhourly rate of the location, plus sales tax. No Damage Deposit is required.

Refund PolicyMunster Parks and Recreation iscommitted to providing the highestquality recreation activities, events,and programs. If a person is notcompletely satisfied with a programor service due to circumstancesunder the department’s control,Munster Parks and Recreation willarrange for the person to repeat theclass at no charge, use the fee foranother class during the same sea-son, or receive a refund.A Full Refund Will Be Granted . . .1. If a participant is dissatisfied with a Munster Parks and Recreation class, program or activity due to circumstances under the department’s control. Refund requests must be made prior to the midpoint of the class, program or activity.2. If the refund is initiated by Munster Parks and Recreation (i.e. cancelled class, low enrollment).3. For injury or illness, with a doctor’s note. (Once a program has begun, only a prorated fee for classes met will be charged). 4. On Trips or Shows if the seat can be resold or if Munster Parks and Recreation cancels the trip or show.All Other Refunds (unless otherwisenoted)1. Refunds will be issued prior to the start of a program if the program enrollment is greater than the minimum, minus a $10 service charge per program plus the cost of supplies (if pplicable).2. 1. Clear the park immediately or seek proper shelter.2. Do not return to the park or move out of the area until short horn blasts sound. This is the “all clear sound.”3. If the all clear sound does not sound after 30 minutes, dangerous weather is still in the area and the activity should be cancelled. Stop and seek shelter anytime you believe lightning threatens you, even if a signal has not been sounded.The system is active April 1 - November 1
