    Success Story...Making an ImpactJames Ross, a sixth grader at Julien Elementary School,has been selected to represent Turlock Unied SchoolDistrict in the Every Student Succeeding program. Thisprogram is set-up to honor students who have overcomeobstacles and those who have contributed to help them

    succeed.Mrs. Murphy, Juliens principal, nominated James for thisaward saying, James was moved to a Special Educationclassroom with Mrs. Pam Esposito. He was strugglingimmensely with some developmental speech delayissues and vision issues that were keeping him fromlearning.

    James credits his academic success to the love andsupport of his family and also to the City Recreationprogram because it has helped him with homework,journal writing, games and how to be a good friend. Hesays Zack, the Site Manager of the Julien After School

    Program, is always taking time to help him make gooddecisions. When asking James who he believes hassupported him and been a part of his success team hesaid, My family! He said that they respect and lovehim even though he isnt perfect. He also said that theRec Program has been a part of his success becausethey help him with his studies every single day afterschool. He claims he still argues with Zack at times butis thankful that he is in his life.

    Zack Ripley has been an employee with the City ofTurlock since October 2006. Zack always makes surethat each child has a smile on his/her face and helps thechildren see themselves with a positive self image. The

    work ethic and dedication that Zack has is unbelievable;we are truly grateful to have him as a part of ourRecreation team. He inuences not only the childrenin the After School Program but his fellow coworkers aswell.

    Zack has been nominated and chosen for the Employeeof the Month award two separate times and hecontinuously helps make our programs better.

    Youth Recreation ScholarshipsThe City of Turlock announces that Youth & Senior

    Recreation Scholarships are available through theRecreation ofce for participation in City of TurlockRecreation Activities. Participants must be 18 years of ageor under, or 62 years of age and above, and must live withinthe city limits of Turlock.     Broadway Park 501 N. BroadwayThere are 3 covered picnic areas to reserve. Enjoy the beautifulplayground and water feature that operates during the summermonths.

    Crane Park 1555 E. Canal DriveCrane Park is a nice, shady park with many amenitiesto offer park-goers. There are 6 picnic areas that can be

    reserved, a new playground area, a half basketball court,tennis courts, and horseshoe pits. In addition, Crane parkcaters to large group events with Area B accommodating upto 190 people.

    Donnelly Park 600 Pedras RoadThere are 14 picnic areas that can be reserved, all areequipped with BBQs. There are two large play structures,a half basketball court, volleyball poles, and a picturesquelake. No swimming or shing allowed.

    Pedretti Park Picnic Area

    2400 Tegner RoadPedretti Park is located off Highway 99. It features a largecovered picnic area that seats up to 85 people. Pedretti hasa nice playground, volleyball poles, and several BBQs.

    2400 Tegner RoadOne of the nest softball facilities in the Central valley,featuring 4 softball elds and 1 baseball diamond.All elds are available for rent and use for tournaments.

    Birds MultiMedia Workshop:Explore birds using different media or art techniques each day!By the nal day, artists will have completed a creative collectionof bird drawings including a amingo, an eagle, a toucan, a doveand more.     Water Polo ProgramsIntroduction to Water Polo :Youth ages 8 12 years are encouraged to sign up to learnthe basic components to the game of water polo. This campoffers instruction on egg beater kicking, passing, shooting andblocking techniques, as well as game strategies. Swimmer musthave passed Level 2 swimming or have the ability to swim acrossthe pool without assistance.

    Youth Water Polo League :The goal of the Youth Water Polo League is to grow the sport ofwater polo by increasing participation at the youth level. Participants will be broken into age groupsto better teach and learn the fundamentals of the game, includingtournament play.

    About Cell Phones for Soldiers:Cell Phones for Soldiers was created by Brittany & RobbieBergquist of Norwell MA. After reading a story about a soldier
