GENERAL RULESThe competition will be held at the Riga 2nd Music School, Ziemeļblāzmasstreet 38 from November 28 till December 3, 2005. The 3rd part of the competition will take place at the Latvian Academy of Music, K. Barona street 1.
The competition is open to young violinists, violists and cellists born after December 3, 1983.
International Jury will evaluate the performance.
Deadline of application is October 1, 2005.
The participation fee is EUR 40 (by remittance participation fee must be paid by October 1, 2005. The participation fee may be paid also upon arrival at the Competition Secretariat during the registration of competitors).
The participation fee is not refunded if the competitor does not participate in the competition.
Competitors are requested to indicate the length in minutes of each musical piece at the application.
Accommodation, catering and travel expenses are paid by competitors.
Competitors must register at the Competition Secretariat at the Riga 2nd Music School, Ziemeļblāzmas street 38, at determined time (see the Competition Schedule – “Drawing”)
If any misunderstanding concerning the Competition Rules, the Latvian text is definitive.
COMPETITION PROCEDURECompetitors will be divided into two age groups and three groups of
specialization (violin, viola and cello): Group A – Competitors born after December 3, 1989; Group B – Competitors born at the time from December 3, 1983 till December 3, 1989. Violists will take part at the Competition in one group – born after December 3, 1983.Competition will consist of three rounds (see the Program).All the repertory must be performed from memory.At the case of surpassing the indicated length of performance, the Jury is
entitled to interrupt the performance.At the 2nd Round there will participate not more than 7 competitors from each
age group. At the 3rd Round there will participate not more than 3 competitors from each age group.
Performance at the 3rd Round will be accompanied by the chamber orchestra (conductor Andris Vecumnieks) and will play 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements from Concerto (according to the drawn lots).
The playing order of competitors will be determined by drawing of lots for each group separately and will be maintained throughout the competition.
If a competitor due to a valid excuse cannot take part in the drawing procedure, his lot will be drawn by the organizers.
All phases of the competition will be open to the public.With the permission of the organizers, all phases of the competition may be
recorded and filmed and no fee will be payable to any competitor.All decisions of the Jury will be final and not subject to appeal.
