Excelsior Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Jan 24:Union Minister of State(Independent Charge) forDevelopment of NorthEastern Region (DoNER),MoS PMO, Personnel, PublicGrievances, Pensions, AtomicEnergy and Space, Dr JitendraSingh said here today thatBharatiya Janata Party (BJP)is making gradual but consis-tent inroads in Northeast andin the last over two years, outof eight North-Eastern States,at least in four States, BJP isin power either as a singleParty or in coalition or as anally.

This, he said, is quite anincredible headway consider-ing the fact that till a fewyears ago, nobody could haveever imagined that BJPwould ever come to power inany of the North-EasternStates and was never consid-ered a serious reckoner in thepolitical landscape of theregion.

Dr Jitendra Singh made theseobservations when BJP TripuraState President Biplab KumarDeb called on him along withBJP Tripura State Prabhari (In-charge) Sunil Deodhar heretoday.

In two States, namelyAssam and ArunachalPradesh, Dr Jitendra Singhsaid, the BJP is in powerpurely on its own strength, whereas in Nagaland we arepart of the coalitionGovernment and in Sikkim, the ruling Sikkim NationalCongress is an ally.

Considering that Tripura isdue for Assembly election nextyear, Dr Jitendra Singhexpressed the hope that thesame trend of BJP capturingNorth-Eastern States wouldcontinue and while half of theStates are already with BJP,

the other half will also fall inline. In this context, hereferred to the upcomingAssembly elections inManipur, followed by theAssembly elections in Tripuranext year.

As for Tripura, Dr JitendraSingh said, the people of theState are reeling with angeragainst 15 years ofCommunist rule, whichpatronized corruption and dis-crimination. He said, the peo-ple are vying for change andBJP is ready to offer a viablealternative.

Biplab Kumar Deb gave DrJitendra Singh a detailedresume of the prevailing polit-ical scenario in the State and

also the current issues whichoccupy people’s concern. Heoffered documentary evi-dences of the blatant corrup-tion being carried out by theCommunist functionaries orthe groups patronized bythem.

Dr Jitendra Singh informedBiplab Deb that his next twovisits to Northeast will includeMeghalaya and ArunachalPradesh, after which he willplan another trip to Tripuraduring which he would alsointeract with Karyakartas andmembers of organization, ashe had done during his lastvisit.
