Representation
Political influenceAs a founding member of the Optical Confederation, we work closely with other optical bodies to lobby national decision-makers on issues related to the eye health agenda. We respond to consultations on behalf of our members, to ensure that your voice is heard at the national level.
We also work closely with Optometry Scotland, Optometry Northern Ireland and Optometry Wales to ensure that our members’ views are reflected in the valuable work carried out in the devolved nations.

In the news
We have continued to champion the profession and
promote optometry and eye health to the national
media. We regularly respond to journalists on a range
of topics, from the importance of eye health and sight
tests, to smart phone usage and screen fatigue.

Our back to school campaign helps members promote the importance of regular sight tests for children. Hundreds of members have been involved in the campaign, making use of our range of free resources, from posters to top tips and presentations for schools.

AOP Awards Helping raise awareness of optometry and eye health with the public
Launched in 2010, the AOP Awards has become a highlight of the optical calendar. In 2014, we produced a range of free marketing materials for all shortlisted nominees to use to promote their achievements.
We had some great feedback, with coverage included in the trade and regional press and even a bill board
advert.
