between 1890 and 1914, a vast wave of jewish immigration, predominantly from eastern europe, engulfed america’s beckoning shores. of the 2,500,000 souls who arrived here, some 2,000,000 settled in new york.

young israel was created to help inspire and recapture this generation

REVOLUTIONARYIn the 1920’s the American Jewish community faced a serious threat; the younger generation was at risk of assimilation. A lack of compelling Jewish education, combined with the enticing allure of all America had to offer, posed an almost insurmountable challenge to the younger generation.

Three men made a decision that changed the course of American Jewry - Max Grablowsky, Joshua Horowitz and Benjamin Koenigsberg founded Young Israel to recapture this generation.

CONTEMPORARYTo engage and excite the younger generation, Friday night sermons and classes were given in English instead of the standard Yiddish. A Model Synagogue was created that included participatory singing, youth programs and a National Council was formed for this exponentially growing movement across North America.

VISIONARYYoung Israel created an employment bureau for the Sabbath observant, packed arms for the Haganah Israel Defense Forces, initiated kosher food on college campuses, championed the Soviet Jewry movement and created an organization to promote the movement.

this is not just the history of young israel -

this is also our future…

international speakers bureau:world class speakers sent to your doorNothing brings in the masses like a fun inspiring night with a gifted speaker enlightening our minds and elevating our souls.

advocating with “one voice”: defending the land of israel“One Voice” will utilize media, petitions, press releases, news articles, lobbying efforts and more to promote a unified powerful message on crucial events affecting Israel and Jewish communities around the globe.

inspiring holiday programming: adding spiritual to ritualHolidays are a natural place to add meaning to Judaism. Meaningful Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, community Sukkot carnivals and family orientated Chanukah and Purim parties share the joy of our heritage.

community israel events: creating unified support for israelOur Israel events will partner with local Federations, schools, and other prominent Jewish institutions for an inspirational evening to support our beloved Israel.

children’s programming: making judaism funWhen our children ask to go to shul we know we have success! Fun, educational children’s programming for Shabbat and Holidays ensure our future generations.

transformational israel trips: a taste of the holy landA trip to Israel is the fastest and most effective tool to solidify one’s commitment to Israel and our heritage. Partnering with leading Jewish educational trips to Israel, Young Israel will offer a highly subsidized journey of a lifetime for hundreds of families.

hosting community outreach shabbatons:sharing the day of restNothing builds community and outreach like a Shabbaton. Young Israel members sharing the beauty of Shabbat with guests in their homes and communal programming is a natural step of our One Community initiative.

educational guides & class materials: inspired wisdom for livingAs the “People of the Book” we understand that literacy and learning Torah has been the backbone for Jewish continuity for over 3,000 years. Making Jewish wisdom relevant, user-friendly and meaningful is the key to address assimilation.

israel advocacy on campus:defending israelCollege campuses are a confusing place for our children because of the powerful propaganda of anti-Israel groups. Partnering with leading groups we will provide a training trip to Israel for college students that prepares them to be effective Israel advocates on their campuses.

one on one learning programs: creating 1000’s of volunteer tutorsThe “chavrusah” or “learning partner” has been the blueprint for Torah learning for the ages. Accessing existing networks our shuls plan to offer One-on-One learning to thousands of individuals.

ONE COMMUNITYOne People. One Purpose. inspire and recapture a generation

Together, we can reverse the tide of assimilation through innovative & engaging outreach programs
