Weekly Reflection
RITE OF SENDING TO THE BISHOP Rite addressing Catechumens and Candidates at 11:00 AM Mass, February 23
“Today we celebrate the Rite of Sending of Catechumens and Candidates to the Bishop. We look forward to celebrating the life-giving mysteries of our Lord’s suffering, death, and resurrection. As we journey together to the Easter Sacraments, the Elect and these Candidates will look to us for an example of Christian renewal. Let us pray to the Lord for them and for ourselves, that we may be renewed by one another’s efforts and gather for the Easter Vigil to share in their joys. We join them in praying for purity of heart.” - Father Richard Eldredge, TOR

Pilgrimage to Italy
Our parish family at Good Shepherd is greatly saddened by the passing of our beloved pastor Father Richard, and many have been asking for ways to honor his legacy of Christ-like service to our community. Father Richard poured his whole self into living out Good Shepherd’s mission of discipleship and evangelization. As pastor of Good Shepherd, he taught our community firsthand that “By God, We Can Do It.” He led us out of debt, bringing Good Shepherd into a strong position to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When Good Shepherd acquired new land in 2019, Father Richard saw this as an exciting opportunity for our future, and he greatly hoped that the loan would be paid off as quickly as possible so that Good Shepherd might remain in a strong position to carry out the work of Christ’s Church. In memory of Father Richard’s faithful leadership and stewardship of Good Shepherd, one way to honor his legacy is by contributing to the Father Richard Memorial Fund which is directed toward the land acquisition debt. (Currently, $380,000 has been donated toward this.) Checks can be made out to Good Shepherd Catholic Community with “Father Richard Memorial Fund” on the memo line. Please keep Father Richard & his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
Thursdays starting February 27 | 6:30 - 8:30pm At each session over 12 weeks, we enjoy a meal, watch a video, and reflect on Christian faith and living through small group discussion. If you have questions about faith or want to connect with others, consider giving Alpha a try. Alpha is for everyone, whether you're a Catholic learning, a Christian exploring, or a non-Christian seeking. Child care available. Learn more: gscc.net/alpha

“Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent. Ashes remind us of our human mortality and our need for salvation in Christ. The disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in these forty days strengthen us to turn from sin and toward God. We enter into the desert of our lives with the power of God to resist the temptations of the evil one. Our response to God’s grace through daily conversion and true repentance brings hope and trust in God’s mercy. The willingness to change makes us disciples whose hearts are open for new life at Easter." - Father Richard Eldredge, TOR

What exactly is a Stephen Minister? One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People. Stephen Ministers are there: after the devastating phone call; after everyone has left the
funeral; after the relationship falls apart; after the doctor says there’s no more they can do; after the nursing home welcomes you; after the last child drives away from home; after the gavel comes down on your loved one; after the baby arrives demanding your all; after your last paycheck; after your loved ones have heard your story too many times, but you still need to talk. Stephen Ministers are ready to come alongside you and provide comfort and support for as long as you need. Visit gscc.net/stephenministry

Third Order Regular: Franciscan Rule and Life Chapter V: The Way to Serve and Work
18. As poor people, the brothers and sisters to whom the Lord has given the grace of serving or working with their hands, should do so faithfully and conscientiously. Let them avoid that idleness which is the enemy of the soul. But they should not be so busy that the spirit of holy prayer and devotion, which all earthly goods should foster, is extinguished.
19. In exchange for their service or work they may accept anything necessary for their own temporal needs and for that of their sisters and brothers. Let them accept it humbly as is expected of those who are servants of God and seekers of most holy poverty. Whatever they may have over and above their needs they are to give to the poor. And let them never want to be over others. Instead they should be servants and subjects to every human creature for the Lord’s sake. (1 Pet. 2:13)
20. Let the sisters and brothers be gentle, peaceful and unassuming, mild and humble, speaking respectfully to all in accord with their vocation. Wherever they are, or wherever they go throughout the world they should not be quarrelsome, contentious, or judgmental towards others. Rather, it should be obvious that they are joyful, good humored, and happy in the Lord as they ought to be. And in greeting others, let them say, “The Lord give you peace.”
Social Justice Weekly Reflection
As Catholics, each of us is called to a well-formed and informed conscience in order to make good moral choices regarding the many life, dignity, and justice issues around us. It is our ongoing responsibility to learn and mature in our faith as we
