Father Richard Memorial Fund

Walking with the Saints: gscc.net/saints

Our parish family at Good Shepherd is greatly saddened by the passing of our beloved pastor Father Richard, and many have been asking for ways to honor his legacy of Christ-like service to our community. Father Richard poured his whole self into living out Good Shepherd’s

mission of discipleship and evangelization. As pastor of Good Shepherd, he taught our community firsthand that “By God, We Can Do It.” He led us out of debt, bringing Good Shepherd into a strong position to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When Good Shepherd acquired new land in 2019, Father Richard saw this as an exciting opportunity for our future, and he greatly hoped that the loan would be paid off as quickly as possible so that Good Shepherd might remain in a strong position to carry out the work of Christ’s Church. In memory of Father Richard’s faithful leadership and stewardship of Good Shepherd, one way to honor his legacy is by contributing to the Father Richard Memorial Fund which is directed toward the land acquisition debt. (Over $494,000 has currently been donated.) Checks can be made out to Good Shepherd Catholic Community with “Father Richard Memorial Fund” on the memo line. Please keep Father Richard & his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Weekly Reflection

FIRST SCRUTINY | March 15 Rite Addressing the Elect at 5:00 PM Mass “On this Third Sunday of our Lenten journey of conversion, God draws us to his Son Jesus, the wellspring of living water. Today the Church throughout the world celebrates the first scrutiny with all those preparing for baptism at Easter. A scrutiny is meant to uncover and heal all that is sinful in their hearts, and to bring out and strengthen all that is good. The scrutiny is for all of us. We, like the Samaritan woman at the well, also need healing. Jesus gives the baptismal waters of the Spirit so that we may never thirst again.” - Father Richard Eldredge, TOR

GSCC has 15 tapestries in our church, including many extraordinary saints. Each week during Lent, we are highlighting one tapestry saint. We hope you will be inspired to walk in the

footsteps of these saints! This week, we are temporarily parting from tapestry saints to highlight St. Joseph, whose Solemnity is celebrated on March 19. Read below and join us for 7:00pm Mass on March 19!

Joseph, someone once joked, was indeed the perfect husband: the only major character in Jesus’ story who never utters a word! But the Gospel recounts and the liturgy celebrates his silent witness of faith-filled deeds: “With a husband’s love he cherished Mary, the Virgin Mother of God; with fatherly care he watched over Jesus” (Preface of Saint Joseph, Sacramentary). Catholic devotion, therefore, hails him as patron-protector of the universal Church. Some cultures set a festive “Saint Joseph’s Table,” welcoming the poor and strangers to feast with family and friends. Tradition keeps today as the anniversary of his death, which we presume was peaceful, with Jesus and Mary present. Thus, Catholics invoke Joseph as Patron of a Happy Death. Descended from David’s house, which God finished “building” through Joseph’s provision of a home for Mary and Jesus, he was, fittingly, a carpenter by trade; thus, patron of workers. Spring, nature’s rebirth, begins between his feast and Annunciation (March 25), appropriately, since Joseph’s silent obedience and Mary’s “Let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38) usher in humanity’s spiritual rebirth. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. New Permanent Adoration Hours

Friday, April 3 | 7:00pm in the church Inspired by Celtic music traditions, this choral worship experience presents Christ’s journey to the cross. Utilizing folk songs, hymns, and newly composed sacred songs (by Joseph M. Martin), the music adorns the heart-felt message of God’s love and grace displayed in Christ’s redemptive work on Calvary. A thoughtful narrative weaves the movements of the service together with Scripture, prayer and poetry, while delivering a reflective message of hope and assurance.

“The cross waited in utter silence, her unmoving limbs empty and barren. Her form was bent and broken, fashioned by uncaring hands into a scaffold of shame. Soon, lost and violent men would raise her rugged timbers into the unforgiving skies of Jerusalem. In their anger and fury they would plunge heavy nails into her bark and fasten a condemned man onto her frame. She waits in the shadows while the shilling winds of Mt. Calvary begin to howl in agony for the one who would die in her arms.” ~Joseph M. Martin

Social Justice Weekly Reflection

How can you sacrifice in a more genuine and meaningful manner? “Go and learn the meaning of the words ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice!’ ” (Matt 9:13)

If Jesus, Mary, and Joseph immigrated to Tarrant County, what wage would Joseph need to live with dignity and let Mary stay home to take care of Jesus, i.e., earn a “living wage”?

Using Jesus as a model of compassion and agape love (unconditional, selfless, active), how can you change your way of living and fast in the way that God wants and support a living wage for all workers in your “supply chain”?

Volunteer with organizations like GSCC Outreach, GRACE, and Catholic Charities. Contact your local, state, and federal elected officials and advocate for immigrants. If you perform works of charity and mercy now, what more can you do? Support our Bishops’ advocacy for human life, dignity,

and justice!

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM Month Two Update: Your baby is making progress developing all of her external features and internal organs. Her brain is functioning at 40 days. Her mother can hear her heartbeat now on

an ultrasonic stethoscope. Her milk teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks. And it has been reported that a two-month old baby can suck her thumb. From this moment onward, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines her body. But everything she needs to survive once she is born is already present by the end of the eighth week.
