School News St. Joseph Preschool's parent orientation will be Wed., August 23, at 6:30 p.m. St. Joseph Preschool serves 3 to 4 year olds and the school runs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. If you would like to enroll your child, please call the school's office at 260 357-5137. The first day of preschool will be Wed., Sept. 6.

This weekend finds us stepping out of our Ordinary time to celebrate a major feast…it is the Transfiguration of the Lord Jesus on Mount Tabor, which is annually celebrated August 6. In His normal fashion of teaching, Jesus has begun to tell the disciples that He is the Suffering Servant revealed in the Old Testament book of Isaiah. Suffering and death would mark His journey of salvation for us. It was the will of His Father that He would suffer and die for us. The disciples will actively resist this news. So, to strengthen them and comfort them for the journey ahead and what they will consider “bad” news, He takes them to Mt Tabor…they experience a theophany…a divine moment, a revelation of the divinity of Christ…a confirmation that despite all appearances, God will be victorious in the end. Peter acknowledges his grasp of the event (our 2nd read-ing today), but there is still more to come. Peter wants to freeze the moment, lock it up in a time warp, but Je-sus knows that this moment is but for strengthening them. And then, the voice…the Voice from heaven, the divine affirmation…”This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him.” The Voice from heaven…heard by believers in Jesus…God the Father, affirming the Son…LISTEN TO HIM. Any questions? We have reopened a parish meeting room in the parish center. This room is open to any parish committee or group that would like to utilize it. Call Jill in the parish office to reserve it. The RCIA group will begin dismissals of the catechumens and candidates from the 8:00 am Mass on October 15…they will “break open the Word” in the choir room in the church basement. After Mass they will meet in the new parish center meeting room for cateche-sis, a more formal teaching time. With the addition of this room in the parish center, we now have three meet-ing areas: Bennett Hall (church basement), St Martin’s and the Parish Center room. We are in need of a director for religious education. If you would be willing to serve in this capacity or think you would like to serve, please call Fr. Jim at the rectory at 357-0381. St Joseph School resumed this past week on Wednesday. More news on that front will come next week. Welcome back, teachers, students and staff! May St Joseph pour his love and prayers on you as you begin a new school year! Fr. Jim

We welcome the following new parishioners who have joined our parish in the months of May, June, and July. We will continue to welcome our new families each month in the bulletin.
