Transcript of Saint Joseph Catholic Church October 3 , 2020 · Saint Joseph Catholic Church October 3rd/4th, 2020...
Dear Parishioners,
Know what I’m looking forward to? Setting my clock
back one hour. We have four weeks to wait. This year, it
happens on All Saints morning. If All Saints hadn’t fallen on a Sunday
this year, that particular Sunday would have been the 22nd Sunday after
Pentecost. This year is actually remarkable, because the Sunday before
All Saints, since it’s the last Sunday in October, is Christ the King. So
the Masses for that Sunday – which would be the 21st Sunday after
Pentecost – will be celebrated on Monday, October 26. But the 22nd
Sunday is out of luck this year, since Monday, November 2 (All Souls),
begins the series of Daily Masses for the dead. I hope you all followed
that. Liturgical details can be dry, but I sort of enjoy it.
I trust our participation in the Rosary Rally for 40 Days for Life was
successful. And now, as of this Sunday, October 4, we have has our new
Bishop for five days. I have no idea when I’ll actually get to meet him.
I’ve heard good reports about him from some of the younger priests in
the diocese. At one time, not too long ago, he was one of the
“formators” at Mundelein Seminary. The young priests like him and
consider him a good guy. I know some of those priests so I trust their
judgment. Please God, I trust he IS a good guy.
Once again, thank you for using Sign Up Genius to register for
weekend Masses. The folks who attend the Saturday 4:15 PM will
continue to sign up by hand on Saturdays. Many of those folks don’t
have computers so it’s really impossible for them to use the program.
So far, it seems to be working well. Of course, I believe we’re all
looking forward to the day when Sign Up Genius will no longer be
necessary and we can bid it “Adieu.”
On another note, I do hope that a few men have decided to step up and
help the parish by serving as ushers. We’ve gotten by with a kind of
“skeleton crew” in the past, but when the existing ushers come and ask
me to ask the men of the parish for help, I have to listen. Come on,
guys, you have to go to church anyway, I mean, you’re already here, so
please help us out. I promise to get you all nice new usher badges.
That’ll be pretty cool, right? Also, guys, if you volunteered for any
work on our recent projects, please contact me so I can put you on our
volunteer list. Don’t know what we’d do without you men. God bless,
dear Family.

Dressing for Church
Putting on “your Sunday best” for God should be the rule of thumb.
Gentlemen should wear dress shirts and slacks. Ties and jackets are a
wonderful touch. Ladies always look their best in dresses or skirts
and blouses and should be mindful of the virtue of modesty,
concealing shoulders, “décolletage” and avoiding tightly, form-
fitting outfits. If veils are not for you, I think there is nothing more
lovely or feminine than a beautiful hat.

Needed … Devout Catholic Substitute Teachers
Each Catholic school in the Diocese of Joliet is successfully
implementing face-to-face instruction that honors the safety
measures outlined in within its School Reopening Plan. As a result,
several Catholic educators are needed to serve as substitute teachers
at the Pre-School – Grade 12 levels. The substitute teacher candidate
must love children and hold either a current Illinois Professional
Educator License (PEL) or an Illinois Substitute License. Please
complete an online application at:
https://www.applitrack.com/dioceseofjoliet/onlineapp/
No degree in education? No problem! If you are called to this ministry, a degree in education is not a
prerequisite for becoming a licensed substitute teacher. An individual
who holds a BA in any discipline is eligible to apply for an Illinois
Substitute License through the seamless process of transcript
evaluation. For further information about obtaining a teaching
license in this manner, contact Karen Udell, CSO Assistant
Superintendent of Leadership and Personnel, at 815-221-6123.
Please Note:
Father Magiera will be gone from Monday, October 5th
after the 7:30 a.m. Mass until Thursday, October 8th.
Father Magiera will return in time for the 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Please pray that he will have safe travels and a restful
break. Thank you very much!
40 Days of Life Campaign Many prolife groups from various Catholic parishes will participate
in the 40 Days for Life campaign. This non-violent protest includes
prayer at the Aurora abortion clinic on Saturday mornings from Sep-
tember 26 – November 7. Participants peacefully and prayerfully
witness to the harm that abortion inflicts on the child in the womb,
the mothers seeking abortion and the society that allows such activi-
ty. The crisis is that 56 million children are killed in the womb every
year- about 150,000 daily. Planned Parenthood in Aurora is the larg-
est abortion facility in the Midwest, killing 75-100 pre-born children
from our community every week.
The solution to ending abortion begins with intense prayer and fast-
ing. Our dear Lord said that some demons can only be driven out by
prayer and fasting. Those who would like to come and pray for an
hour and are interested in carpooling will meet at St. Joseph's Church
in downtown Joliet at 9 a.m.on Saturday mornings and return around
noon. If you have questions, contact [email protected]. If
you need more information about this campaign go to
