Dear Parishioners,
So we begin August, the last full month of Summer 2020.
Looking back, I must say I preferred Summer 2019 to the
present one. I can only hope that logic, rationality and the extinguishing
of cowardice will ensure that the Summer of 2021 will make up for the
present one. Wouldn’t it be nice, one day, to look back and regard this
present period as non-existent? How great it would be to just wish away
Spring and Summer 2020.
Well, though we’ve had to push back our planned time for project
completion here at St. Joseph, we’re still on track for a wonderful
completion. Our new basement door is installed and our basement now
has new lighting. True, the rest rooms are yet to be completed and we
can’t do the floors until everything else is done. To tell you the truth, I
can’t promise that everything will be done before I leave on vacation. I
know that our wonderful crew will do everything in its power to ensure
that all will be complete upon my return.
To remind you all: I’ll leave Monday, August 10, after the 7:30 AM
Mass and will return on Friday August 28, sometime in the afternoon.
In my absence, Father Scott Haynes will be with you from August 11
through 14 and Father Zach Akers will be with you from August 15
through 24. Father Scott Hanes will then return and be with you from
August 25 through 28. Of course, there will be no variation for the
Saturday 4:15 PM Anticipatory Masses on August 15 and 22.
The Feast of the Assumption is Saturday, August 15. Since it is not
under obligation this year, there will be no “anticipatory” Ordinary
Form Mass the evening before. For the Extraordinary Form, the
schedule will be the Sunday schedule, i.e., 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Of
course, the normal anticipatory Mass schedule for both forms will be in
place: 4:15 PM Ordinary Form for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time;
6:00 PM Extraordinary Form for the 11th Sunday after Pentecost. All
you need to for reassurance is to check carefully the liturgical calendar
in next week’s bulletin. I entered the scheduling info myself and I’ve
checked it time and again. Of course, you and always refer to our
website and check the bulletin there, as well as take a look at the catchy
things we’ve provided for you. God bless you, my dear Family.

Dressing for Church
Yes, it’s quite hot. Yes, it’s summer. Still, there is a certain amount
of decorum that should be observed when entering God’s House and
worshipping Him at Mass. These are not the times to sport your
favorite beach-wear, regardless of how cool and fashionable it is.
Nor should shorts and flip-flops rule the day. Our church is very
nicely air-conditioned so, it’s not too much to dress modestly and,
yes, tastefully, for God. Gents should make every effort to wear
dress slacks and, at least, a sport shirt. Ladies are always at their
most beautiful in a tasteful dress or skirt and blouse. Should ladies
choose slacks, remember looser is always more comfortable than
tighter. Think Betty White rather than Kim Kardashian.
